Guidance from an expert…
The following is a suggested format for delivery and presentation for the unit. It would be helpful to annotate the AO on the work.
AO1 – Generic
Ø Describe what is meant by health and well-being?
Ø Choose two factors that affect health and well-being, eg lifestyle choices and financial factors. Discuss how these can affect health. (Use at least four examples)
Ø Discuss the differences between the medical and social models of health. Useful to compare the differences in the form of a table.
Ø Use the medical and social models of health to explain why individuals fail to respond to health education advice?
Ø Describe two ways in which an individual’s quality of life can be affected by ill health.
AO2
Ø Select two key workers/practitioners whose main responsibility is health promotion. What tasks do they perform in relation to health promotion?
Ø Look at the skills and qualities (separately) they require. Why are these so important to their job role?
Ø Describe two preventative measures (in total) used by the key worker(s)/practitioner(s). How do these improve peoples’ health? Are these linked to any government initiative?
Ø Briefly describe one government initiative. Look in detail at the potential implications of this initiative.
AO3
Ø Use a wide range (four) of primary and secondary research to plan a small scale health education campaign. (A pre campaign questionnaire is sufficient for primary research).
In groups or by yourself:
Ø Decide on a health promotion campaign. Set aims (maximum two) and objectives.
Ø Plan who will do what and when. Consider potential costs.
Ø Ensure the plan includes the approach (method) being used to deliver the campaign. Justify the method(s) used.
Ø Discuss the pre-set criteria and the intended and possible unintended outcomes.
Ø Compile a pre- and post-campaign questionnaire that measures the pre-set criteria. Ensure the post-campaign questionnaire includes feedback on your own performance.
AO4
Ø How successful was your campaign?
Ø How successful was your performance?
Ø Make recommendations for improvements.
Ø Remember to relate back to your pre-set criteria and intended/unintended outcomes.
Ø Include a witness statement, signed and dated by an observer, to confirm your participation in the campaign.
Remember!
Ø You could link your health promotion campaign to your interaction in Unit 2.
Ø Make sure you reference sources of information within the text and include in your bibliography.
