Unit 1: Volleyball

Day: 1

Monday

Objectives: / The student will demonstrate proper passing and setting form 70% of the time.
The student will learn how to work cooperatively in a group setting.
The student will be knowledgeable on the history and basic rules of a volleyball game.
The student will learn the importance of communication in a group activity.
Activities: / Group Circle Beach Ball Pass: Students will continuously pass a beach ball within their group. The object is to keep the ball from dropping while correctly performing the correct technique.
Partner Toss: One student will toss the volleyball to the passer. The passer will then bump the ball directly back to the tosser.
Partner Setting: Partners will set the ball to one another.
Materials: / Proper P.E. attire, numerous volleyballs, and a net.
Assessment: / The student will show the teacher the proper technique when passing and setting a volleyball.
ACOS: / Demonstrate skills utilized in lifetime health-enhancing activities.
Demonstrate skills used in individual, dual and team sports.
Identify rules, regulations, tactics, strategies, and rituals utilized in individual, dual, and team sports.
Apply, positive reinforcement to enhance peer physical performance during physical activity.
Homework: / Practice proper passing and setting techniques.

Day: 2

Tuesday

Objectives: / The student will demonstrate proper underhand serve technique 70% of the time.
The student will perform the proper setting and passing technique 75% of the time.
The student will acquire the basic knowledge of the court when serving.
The student will recognize what type of serve is an Ace.
Activities: / Partner Toss: One student will toss the volleyball to the passer. The passer will then bump the ball directly back to the tosser.
Individual Setting: Student will control the ball by setting to themselves while lying down.
Underhand Serve progression: Each student will serve the ball over the net beginning at a short distance.
Materials: / Proper P.E. attire, volleyballs, net system.
Assessment: / The student will demonstrate the proper underhand serve technique to the teacher.
ACOS: / Demonstrate skills utilized in lifetime health-enhancing activities.
Demonstrate skills used in individual, dual and team sports.
Identify rules, regulations, tactics, strategies, and rituals utilized in individual, dual, and team sports.
Apply, positive reinforcement to enhance peer physical performance during physical activity
Homework: / Practice the proper underhand serve technique. Go over basic rules of activity.

Day: 3

Wednesday

Objectives: / The student will be able to pass an underhand serve while using correct passing technique 65% of the time.
The student will be able to pass the ball directly to their partner 5 out of 10 times.
The student will be able to understand and attempt the pass/set series.
Activities: / Underhand Serve: Student will attempt to underhand serve the ball from behind the baseline.
Points Game: Student will attempt to serve the ball and hit the cones that are placed on the gym floor.
Serve Receive: Student will pass a served volleyball.
Pass/Set: Student 1 will pass the ball while student 2 sets the ball.
Materials: / Proper P.E. attire, volleyballs, net system, cones
Assessment:

Day #4

Thursday

Objectives: / The student will be able to pass using the correct technique 75% of the time.
The student will be able to pass a served ball using the correct technique 70% of the time.
The student will be able to set to a target 50% of the time.
Activities: / Partner passing and setting: one ball per 3 people
Court walk through: Focusing on the boundary lines and positions
Underhand serve with receivers: Working on serves and passing a serve
Setting Game: Set into the basketball goal.
Materials: / Proper P.E. attire, volleyballs, net system, and cones.
Assessment: / Peers assessment of serving technique.
ACOS: / Demonstrate complex movement in a variety of physical activities.
Utilize rules and strategies for safe game play and selected lifetime activities.
Homework: / Practice proper underhand serving technique

Friday

Choice Day

Objectives: / The student will choose an activity in which they would like to participate.
The student will participate in the activities using proper sportsmanship skills and proper skill form.
Activities: / Frisbee, football, soccer, etc.
Materials: / Proper P.E. attire,
Assessment: / The teacher will assess each student to make sure they are using proper sportsmanship skills throughout the activities.
ACOS: / Apply coordinated movements, strategies, and rules to achieve success in a variety of sports and activities.
