Vocabulary Terms and Definition: L5 - On a separate sheet of paper create an illustratedposter with the term written large that is detailed and colorful.
Immunity:an ability to resist a particular disease either through genetic resistance or by surviving it
Northwest Passage: an all-water route from Europe to Asia through North America
Charter:written contract giving the right to establish a colony and administer the laws
Columbian Exchange:the transfer of plants, animals, and diseases between the New World (N+S America) and the Old World of Europe, Africa, and Asia
Treaty of Tordesillas:agreement blessed by the Pope that divided the Western hemisphere into Spanish and Portuguese lands.
Missionary:Person sent by the church to convert Native Americans to Christianity
Colony:a group of people who leave their native country, settle in a new land, and remain governed by their homeland
Conquistador:Spanish soldier that explored the Americas and claimed the land for Spain
Encomienda System: a Spanish grant of land and slave labor by Native Americans (often for cash crops)
Royal Colony:Colony ruled by the king’s appointed officials.
