- Dr. Giulia Cappelli (Italy) for receiving special training in modern methods and techniques of biomedical research before her research assignments at CIRBA in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
- Dr. Anjay Kuman Garg (India) to carry out studies in the modification of the immune system by mycobacterial infection at the research facilities of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”.
- Dr. Silvia Vendetti (Italy) for arranging training of Dr. G. Cappelli at the research facilities of ICAERI and for the elaboration of proposals on scientific-clinical laboratories to be installed at CIRBA in Abidjan.
- Sr. Simona Ferrara (Italy) for research related to the evaluation of apoptosis of brochoalveolar lavage (B.A.L.) samples and to the verification of the occurrence of any correlation between the induction of programmed cell death and the cykotine pattern expressed by the infected lung cells to be implemented at the research facilities of the Unit of Research and Diagnosis of Tuberculosis at the Monaldi Hospital in Naples, Italy.
- Mr. Giuseppe Mallardo (Italy) for research related to the evaluation of mycobacterial DNA in human brochoalveolar lavage (B.A.L.) to be carried out at the Unit of Research and Diagnosis of Tuberculosis at the Monaldi Hospital in Naples, Italy.
- Ms. Modestina Migone (Italy) for the processing and analyzing of biological samples coming from CIRBA at the facilities of the Institute of Experimental Medicine of CNR.
- Mrs. Evelyne Sia (technician) trained in techniques for cell proliferation and cytokines at the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France. The scientific supervisor was Prof. L. Montagnier
- Mr. Thomas D’Aquin Toni (researcher) trained in techniques for HIV sequences at the L. Spallanzani Center in Rome, Italy. The scientific supervisor was Prof. V. Colizzi.
- Mr. Petr Kosina from the Institute of Tropical and Subtropical Agriculture of the Czech University of Agriculture, Prague, Czech Republic for undertaking a study of salinity impact on agricultural plants including their genetic structure at the Instituto de Biologia Molecular y Celular de Plantas in Valencia, Spain under the scientific supervision of Dr. V. Moreno Ferrero, Director of the Plant Cell Laboratory of this Institute.
- Mr. Viliam Snakel from the Parasitological Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Kosice, Slovakia for carrying out research in the field of molecular biology and biochemistry applied to parasitology and mainly for evaluating the degree of genetic divergence in eubothrcem races at the Institute of Parasitology of the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.
- Mr. Sergei Drakin from the Department of Cryobiology of the Reproductive Systems of the Institute for Problems of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kharkov, Ukraine for undertaking a study of cryobiology application to fish maturation at the Research Institute of Fisheries, Acquaculture and Irrigation in Berettyoujfaln, Hungary under the scientific supervision of Dr. Olga Bukouskaya.
- Ms. Maria C. Palidon from the Institute of Physiological Chemistry of the Hijnrich Hein University, Dusseldorf, Germany was provided with a travel grant to attend the International Workshop on “Micronutrients and Health – Molecular Biological Mechanisms” held in July 2000 in Malaysia.
