GuidelinesfortheBSWFieldLearningPlan

1. ThepurposeoftheFieldEducationLearningAgreementistoidentifythespecificlearningtasksoftheinternshipasrelatedtothe10EPAScorecompetenciesandthe45practicebehaviorsaswellasthecurriculumoftheBachelor’sDegreeProgramoftheSchoolofSocialWork,BloomsburgUniversity.Tothebestoftheirability,FieldInstructorsareexpectedtoteachstudentsthelearningtasksandmonitorpracticebehaviorsthataddressthesecompetenciesgiventhelimitationsoftheirrespectivesettingsorroles.TheFieldLearningPlanalsoservesasaguideforfieldinstructionandsupervisionmeetings.Itfurthercreatesabasisfortheevaluationandnarrativethatoccurattheendoftheterm.

2.ResponsibilityfortheFieldLearningPlanisjointlysharedbytheStudentandtheFieldInstructor.Whileadditionallearningtasksmaybedevelopedthatgobeyondthearticulatedpracticebehaviors,theFieldLearningPlanshouldreflecttherequiredlearningforBSWlevelandtermoffieldplacement.TheStudentsubmitstheplanbytheappropriateduedatetotheFieldLiaisonandFieldCoordinator.Thelearningagreementisexpectedtoreflectcollaborationbetweenthestudent,fieldinstructor/tasksupervisorandthefacultyLiaison/coordinator.

3.Measurementcriteriacaninclude,butnotlimitedtothefollowing:cases,journals,writtenassignmentsandmaterialofallkindthatisreviewedbythefieldinstructor;oralpresentations,clinicaldocumentation,proposals,projects,andtaskgroupparticipation.Directobservation(shadowing)oftheStudent'sworkisexpected.FeedbackandevaluativeinformationfromotherstaffinvolvedwiththeStudent'seffortshouldbeincorporatedintotheevaluationcriteria.

4.TheStudent'sFieldLiaisonandFieldCoordinatorreviewandapprovetheFieldLearningPlan.Itisusedasafocusforagencyvisitsaswellasforanyissuesthatmayrequireclarificationorproblem-solvingcollaborationbetweentheLiaisonandtheFieldInstructor.

5.TheFieldLearningPlanmaybemodifiedduringtheperiodoffieldplacementtoreflectidentifiedlearningneedsoftheStudentaswellaschangesthatmayoccur.Situationssuchasstudentabsencesbeyondthreedays,irregularattendance,inabilitytocompletetherequirednumberofhours,changeoffieldinstructororchangeoffieldassignmentmayneedtobebroughttotheimmediateattentionofanddiscussedwiththeLiaison

6.ThetasksidentifiedonthisFieldEducationLearningAgreementwillbeevaluatedbythefieldinstructor/tasksupervisorbothmid-­‐semesterandattheendofthesemestertodeterminethecompetencylevelofthestudentintern.

7.The University Faculty Liaison/or the Field Director will serve as an MSW Instructor/Supervisor whenever the agency instructor/supervisor is not a BSW or MSW.
