AGLS 129

  1. Review Summer Teaching Policy

-  As of right now all undergraduate courses will receive funding as long as the courses make. Undergraduate courses will be paid first then graduate as COALS funds undergraduate courses.

  1. Expectations and Aspirations Worksheet (prepare for Microbursts)

-  In an effort to prevent miscommunication within program areas, this will be an activity to have prepared prior to entering the Microburst.

-  Peer to Peer Expectations (What do you expect right now from peers in your program?)

-  Peer to Peer Aspirations (What would you like to see in the future in your program?)

-  Leader from Peer Expectations (What do you expect from administrators?)

-  Leader from Peer Aspirations (What would you like to see from administration in the future?)

-  After the microbursts these will be typed and distributed.

  1. Advisory Boards – Ambrya

-  Everyone will be asked to provide names during the Microbursts.

-  The timeline goal to have the Advisory Board in place is Fall 2013.

-  The advisory board will review curriculum, mentor students, be an outside view looking in, identify internships, recruiting.

-  Candidates for the Advisory Board do not need to be ALEC graduates. They can be industry experts who hire our graduates.

-  Discussion of current names submitted. These names are all men and primarily white. We need to diversify and better represent our current students. If we look outside the department for those that are not traditionally connected to our department we should be able to fill these gaps.

  1. Other

-  Cathryn Clements update on Study Abroad. Innovation proposals due May 1st. SAEF funding based on $80 per credit hour per student.

-  Study Abroad proposal common errors: Dates on proposal should match with itinerary dates, disability language is required. It is advised to send proposals to Cathryn or Kim Dooley first to make sure it’s correct before sending in for approval.

-  A 3-credit hour Study Abroad program needs to have between 45-48 contact hours. Some programs may need to add pre/post meetings (possibly meet once a week during Spring semester prior to study abroad) to meet the 45-48 contact hour requirement.

-  Study Abroad Programs Office is now Global Program Support. Please leave feedback with this office for study abroads.

-  Study Abroad programs can now be offered to other SEC partner universities. Students will pay a transition fee and be charged in-state tuition. Briers suggests that we partner with other SEC land grant universities. All of these are Southern NIFA schools except for Mizzou.

Attendees: Tracy Rutherford, Robert Strong, Jamie Norgaard, Ambrya Baldwin, Jeff Ripley, Summer Odom, Cathryn Clements, Julie Harlin, Gary Briers, Deb Dunsford.
