MATERIALS OF CARBON BRUSHES

ESSENTIAL GROUPS OF CARBON MATERIALS FOR THE BRUSHES OF ROTARY ELECTRIC MACHINES

Graphites

The basic raw material for production of these brushes, quality of which is in the natural graphite, is compound of pitch or tar. We can achieve a great varnishing and lubricating effect depending on the ash amount. The prior quality of the materials is the high flexibility.

Carbongraphites

Materials coming out at the production of those are ash, kerosene coax, pitch and tar. After moulding they are baking at the temperature of 1000 oC. They are hard relatively and make brushes varnishing. The current load can be applied on them only a little because of their lower flexibility.

Electrographites

The matters are rated to the most essential group of the carbon materials for the brushes to the rotary electric machines. The first phase for their production is similar as at the production of carbongraphites, but these are baking once more becoming electrographites at the temperatures of approx. 2600 oC by lapping on themselves the good electric and mechanical properties. They are fitted to electric machines of various outputs, where we should get a good operational, commutation and friction capabilities such as durability of a brush and commutator.

Silvergraphites

They are produced from graphite and silver powder. The silvergraphites are destined mainly for servo-assisted steering at measuring techniques, devices with silent run, military industry etc.

Metalgraphites

Starting materials for them are copper and graphite powder. Getting metalgraphites based on graphite and copper ratio we can employ either their good friction properties or high electric conductivity. Their contact and internal resistance is relatively small. They are fitted to the machines with a high current density and low commutation strain mainly.
