UCL Global Excellence Scholarships aim to reward academic excellence among new UCL students.

There are a total of8 scholarships per session for the academically most outstandingundergraduate students joining UCL. One undergraduate award is reserved for students from each of the following regions(based on students’ domicile)

  • The UK
  • Europe (excluding the UK, but including Russia)
  • Africa
  • the Indian sub-continent and the Middle East
  • China, North- and Central South-East Asia
  • Australasia
  • North America
  • Central and South America including the Caribbean

Eligibility Requirements

Candidates must be

  • Admitted to UCL for degree study at any level
Selection Criteria

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence, achievement and potential. Financial circumstances of the candidates are not taken into account.

Value: Benefits and Duration

The scholarships consist of £5,000, and are tenable for one year only. Scholarship funds may be applied to fees or paid out in three instalments payable at the start of each term.

Nominations Deadline and Procedure

There is no application procedure. Candidates are nominated by Departments and Faculties.

Departments must provide Faculty Offices with the details of their academically best undergraduate entrants from each of the eight regions defined under the scheme(based on students’ domicile as shown in UCAS/SITS records). (Financial circumstances of the candidates must not be taken into account.) The Nomination Forms must be accompanied by copies of the complete UCAS/Graduate Admissions application for each of their nominees (copies must be single-sided only and provided on A4 paper). Each Department will be putting forward a maximum of 8 candidates.

Department nominations must reach Faculty Offices by 1st September.

Faculties select from the Department nominations the academically best undergraduate and graduate entrants per region (based on students’ domicile) across the entire Faculty and provide the UCL Scholarships Office with the details of their 8 nominees. (Financial circumstances of the candidates must not be taken into account.) The Nomination Forms must be accompanied by copies of the complete UCAS/Graduate Admissions application for each of their nominees (copies must be single-sided only and provided on A4 paper). Each Faculty will be putting forward a maximum of 8 prospective undergraduates.

Faculty nominations must reach UCL Scholarships by 15September:

A panel of UCL academics makes the final selection from nominations put forward by theFaculties of one undergraduate scholarship for each of the eight regions.

Notification of Results

Results will be announced to faculties and successful candidates in midOctober.
