UC DAVIS AVIATION SYMPOSIUM

REVOLUTION IN AVIATION + MARCH 1-4 2009

STUDENT POSTER SESSION - CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

A Poster Session allows authors of projects or research work to present a summary of their work in a less formal manner than giving a lecture. Posters are visual representations of work mounted on a board (think school science fair projects) and provide a great showcase for students, community members and others who feel they have something to share but do not have an opportunity to do so in the formal program. Work submitted should contain new unpublished information of general interest to symposium attendees. During the formal poster viewing and reception (Tuesday March 3rd from 5-6 pm) authors are expected to stand beside their posters to answer questions. This presents a wonderful opportunity for one-on-one dialogue with those interested in your work. Posters should be set up just prior to the beginning of the symposium (Sunday morning/afternoon) and may remain displayed through the last afternoon on Wednesday. Rolling panels & pushpins will be provided.

To apply: Submit an abstract (a narrative outline) of your poster with your name & contact information by December 12, 2008. See below for required specifications and further details.

Abstract Format:
Abstracts must be written in English and no longer than 350 words. Abstract titles should be concise and informative. The main body of the abstract should indicate how the research or work is original in design or conception and any conclusions that can be made. Submissions should be inPDF format and should not include tables, figures or references. If there is more than one author, the first author listed should be the one presenting the poster at the symposium (the “Primary” author). Be sure to indicate institutional affiliations for all authors. Please provide full contact information and a brief Biography (no more than 100 words) for the submitting author.

Abstracts of accepted posters will be posted to our website along with podium presentations after the symposium. Have someone proofread your submission before sending it since errors of spelling, grammar or scientific fact will be posted to our website as submitted. If you do not wish your poster abstract to be posted to our website, please let us know at the time of submission.

Please note: The Poster Session is not considered an acceptable format for promoting a business. If you would like to promote products or services at the symposium please contact us about becoming an Exhibitor.

Acceptance:
Authors will receive email notification of their status by January 9th. Presenting authors must attend the symposium. Please note symposium registration deadlines. There is no additional discounted registration fee provided to poster authors – although as this is designed for student presenters the registration rate is quite low. If you wish to apply for a Student Scholarship to help you to attend the symposium please submit that form as well. Symposium registration is handled through our UC Davis Conference Services website at:

Poster Format Guidelines

Accepted Posters will be assigned a numbered space in the Poster area. While posters are a good means for communicating visually illustrative materials such as photographs, graphs, charts, and tables, they should also have some text. Boil your information down to essentials and remember our symposium audience is quite diverse. (Sometimes “less is more”). The maximum outside dimension of each poster must not exceed 4' x 4' including the title. Information presented on posters should be readable at a distance of three feet. Posters will be fastened with push pins to a large cork rolling board – so besure you allow space for this in the corners of your display. Poster board is ok – but consider your method of transport. A large printed paper can be carried in a tube.

We look forward to learning more about your work!
