My Take:

Jeremy is very raw and yet very gifted. I saw a video on him that was just him dunking the ball and I was impressed with his athleticsm. I did my homework on him and found that he just had a 19 point and 17 rebound game versus Florida Atlantic. Evans was ranked on numerous of Draft websites, but none of them had him to high. Jeremy Evans impressed me enough to really do research on him and this is what I found out about him. He has tremendous upside with him being 6’9, a 7’2 wingspan and a 41 inch vertical. This is off the charts, and I found out that his standing vertical is 9’1 and vertical reach is 12’6. He had to play the 5 this season and was really out of position for the next level being 190 lbs. So you ask yourself, can he play the 3? Yes he can, he has very good footwork and will need time to develop his stance and to get used to guarding wing players, especially at the next level. If he get’s it, watch out the ceiling is the limit. Defensively he will learn right away, but offensively it will take time. He looked very uncomfortable shooting the ball in games. The famous Tim Grover is working out with him right now. Some say he can knock down 3’s when not in a game and hopefully can transform this into his game as well. He only shot 25% from beyond the arc, but he shot almost 70% at the free throw line and over 60% all 4 years at Western Kentucky. The downside again is that hedosen’t have the feel yet and it’s because he only shot over 10 times in a game 3 times all season and 5 times in his college career. He played down low and often only shot when he got a rebound or on a fast break.

What kind of person is he?

After listening to stories that all stem from his coaches, agent, teammates, and family members. They all say the same things, so I know it’s not them being biased. I know he is graduating with his degree on time. He comes from a strict background and is very close to his mother. His uncle was an NBA level player that took the wrong turns. Everyone says he is a very natural, innocent, nice guy, and is refreshing to be around. When he came to Chicago to work with Tim Grover, he had the chance to do anything and wanted to spend the day at the Chicago Art museum and looked at artwork for a few hours and loved every minute of it. No medical injuries and no criminal history.

What kind of system is best for Jeremy Evans?

Jeremy is a project with unbelievable upside. If you take him in the 2nd round with hopes down the road, there is no right system for him. He will be a 3 man with athleticsm to defend and in time might develop some offensive skills. I would draft Jeremy in the later 2nd round and really work with him. If he ever gets it or when he gets it, he will really get it.

Team play – He will play where you need him and do what the team asks of him.

Court Sense – He needs to improve, however he seems to find where to get the loose balls.

Toughness – He’s very gritty and will bang with big guys.

Speed (End to End) – He’s very quick.

Hands – Average to above average.

Footwork – Needs improvement

Upper body Strength – Needs to hit the weights, but we say that about all thin players.

Explosive to rim – At times, but can if he puts his mind to it.

Defense – In time will be very good, he dosen’t fall for fakes. Positioning is very suspect, but is working with the right people to change that.

Shooting – Needs confidence

Passing – Is willing, but lacks when to.

Rebounding – For a 3, yes.

Timing – Is good.

Fights thru picks – Good

2nd and 3rd efforts – Very good.

Willingness to get better – This is what seperates him from the other projects.
