FLIGHT MISSION

The training flight is responsible for maintaining all the necessary material for training cadets of the group. Training flight is also responsible for administering tests as mandated by the group commander to ensure that group leaders are performing to the standards of their positions. The flight is subdivided into elements, each of which is responsible for specific training aspects. The format for the training flight is as illustrated below:

JOB DESCRIPTIONS

  • Training Flight Commander
  • Coordinate all training flight efforts and organize flight tasking by urgency.
  • Create new training flight responsibilities with group commander.
  • Act as liaison between group commander and the training flight.
  • Maintain training flight continuity files by removing irrelevant or outdated information and by modifying job descriptions/flight responsibilities.
  • Release policy letters to the group as mandated by the group commander.
  • Leadership Development Element
  • Create CLF's (cadet leadership files).
  • Create and circulate questionnaire to group to gather the information necessary for CLF's.
  • Create a handout for every cadet regarding ways to move closer to the goals listed in their CLF's as mandated by training flight commander.
  • Regulate the information taught at the Future Military Officer's Club.
  • FMOC Head (Future Military Officer's Club)
  • Publicize FMOC to the rest of the student body.
  • Schedule FMOC meetings as mandated by training flight commander.
  • Establish, update, and teach the necessary FMOC curriculum.
  • Quality Control Element
  • Establish a date by which all incoming group leaders must be familiar with the responsibilities and processes relative to their positions.
  • Using materials endorsed by AETC (air education training command), SASI (senior aerospace science instructor), and group commander, create lessons/testing materials relevant to the different cadet tiers (noncommissioned officers, senior noncommissioned officers, and commissioned officers.)
  • Establish and administer tests to determine a cadet's ability to perform in their position and report results to training flight commander.
  • Reports all testing results to leadership development element.
  • Academic Element
  • Appoints academic representatives who excel in specific subjects to be “on call” if cadets need or are ordered by the SASI or ASI to seek academic assistance.
  • Establish “Zero Hour” tutoring program.
  • Reports results and cadet progress to training flight commander, information management flight commander, and SASI.
  • Devise strategies to raise flight academic averages.
  • Monitor flight academic averages for improvement.

PROCESSES

Training Flight Commander

  • Manage and oversee the progress and work of the leadership development, academic, and quality control elements. Training flight chief must record all meeting agendas and attendance.
  • Any type of policy letters need to be forwarded up the chain via routing slip, as shown below:

  • The following routing slip is used to coordinate the movement of documents (LOC, LOA, Memorandums, etc.) up through the chain of command. This is attached to said document and is labeled with the names of those you need to view it. The section designated “Disposition Instructions” tells the viewers of the document what you want them to do with it (i.e. reply, review, correct, etc.).

Leadership Development Element

  • The prime duty of leadership development is to keep record of the group’s leadership documentation. To insure that all information is received, there are a few forms which will need to be sent out, including:
  • A memo requesting leadership documents, after which all documentation will need to be placed in cadet’s CLF’s. (example below)

Leadership Development Element

  • A cadet leadership info file will need to be kept for every cadet with a CLF.

Future Military Officer’s Club Head

  • Coordinates and sponsors classes and seminars on scholarships and officer training to the student body.

Quality Control Element

  • Quality control is mainly responsible for quality of position performance within the group. As a start, it is imperative that quality control is familiar with the processes of other positions within the group, and be able to test any position on their job responsibilities.
  • A cadet not knowing the responsibilities of their position will receive an MFR regarding their lack of knowledge.

Academic Element

  • Academic element chief duty is the oversight and maintenance of the group’s academic standing.
  • One particular task is reporting cadet’s who are failing any classes to the instructors; this insures accountability of the group’s academic standing in accordance with the group’s goals.
  • In order to run successful “Zero Hour” program, academic element is responsible for recruiting cadets, who excel in core subjects, in order to help run the program smoothly.
