CONTRACTS AND PAY RATES

ADJUNCTS

As per the Bloomfield College Faculty Handbook, college contracts for the specific courses taught in a given semester will be mailed to each instructor’s home, one week before classes begin. Please sign one original (retaining the second copy for your records) and return the contract and a copy of the course syllabus to the Office of Academic Affairs in the envelope provided.

If the salary is based on an enrollment of fewer than eight (8) students, the contract will be adjusted to include any increases in enrollment that may occur during the first full week of classes and the instructor will be notified of this change. Similarly, any decline in enrollment resulting in fewer than eight (8) students will serve as the basis of issuing a new course contract at the close of the first full week of classes. The College reserves the right to cancel classes with an enrollment below eight.

Note: Update any contact information with human resources in a timely manner.

PAYMENT: The per-course-per-semester amount may be found in the faculty handbook. After the sixth consecutive semester of service an adjunct is considered represented by the union and, if there is a section available, a senior adjunct gets priority when staffing needs arise.

Adjunct faculty are paid on the 15th and last day of the month (or the Friday before if the 15th or last day falls on a weekend) after 12 noon. Paychecks may be picked up at the Payroll Office on the first floor of Knox Hall. Alternately, you may arrange to have your paychecks directly deposited into your checking account or mailed to your home (by providing self-addressed stamped envelopes). Call Elaine Jackson-Blue (x203) for additional information. Paychecks will not be issued unless the Payroll Department has a signed contract, a completed W-4 (withholding form), and an I-9 form.

INCREMENTS: Parttime faculty members (Lecturers) who are currently teaching and have taught two full regular (nonsummer) semesters within the past two years receive cumulative service increments.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE: Adjunct faculty may take a leave of absence of up to one year for health, personal or professional reasons, only if they have obtained the prior approval of the Division Chairperson and the Dean of Faculty, and return at the level of service increment achieved before the leave was taken.

Contact Carolyn Gros (x114) if there are further contract-related questions.

PROFESSIONAL TUTORS

Once an employee has been hired, the office manager will provide instructions on the necessary paperwork to be completed.

These are the forms that need to be completed:

·  Bloomfield College Application for Employment

·  Bloomfield College Employment Information

·  U.S. Department of Justice Employment Eligibility Verification

·  W-4

·  Application For Accounts To Access Data (such as e-mail) and Voice Resources

·  Agreement of having read the sexual harassment policy

In addition, the new employee needs to provide a copy of their social security card and a picture id such as a U.S. driver’s license or passport.

PAYMENT: A professional tutor will be paid the same hourly rate for tutorial sessions, workshops, and study groups. Payment is on a bi-weekly basis.

When hired, a tutor will be paid $12.00 per hour. After one year of employment, the pay rate will be $13.00 per hour. After 3 years of employment, the pay rate will be $15.00 per hour.

To receive the pay rate increase, the professional tutor must maintain satisfactory standing and attend at least one CAD professional development workshop per year.

NOTE: Different pay rates may apply when the session is being paid by another department’s budget.
