Twyford Neighbourhood Update, December 2017

Halloween has passed, Guy Fawkes has had his night, and those we should not forget are Remembered.

We are now catching the scent of chestnuts on open fires, Christmas lights are being switched on and children (and adults!) are doing their best to be good for jolly old St. Nick.

Humbug!

------

Happily we have largely come through the Halloween and Bonfire Night period with minimal harm. There had been a degree of increased Anti-Social Behaviour around the King George V Playing Field in the week following Halloween, which unfortunately may have escalated to several instances of damage. We are continuing to work to identify those responsible where damage has occurred.

Through working with schools and parents we have made the youngsters potentially involved fully aware that their behaviour must improve and this message seems to have gotten through and the team will continue to keep an eye on them.

------

PC Tracy Mills has settled in and is leading this seasons Stronghold Campaign. Stronghold focuses on crime prevention, particularly around Christmas time when families and trees start to accumulate presents.

Twyford and Woodley are running events on 7th and 8th December 2017 at Woodley Precinct and Waitrose, Twyford respectively.

On the topic of crime prevention, there has recently been another wave of thefts from motor vehicles throughout the Bracknell & Wokingham LPA. Many of these involving vehicles apparently left insecure overnight. The lights may flash when pressing the fob, but please test the doors to make sure they have locked.

------

We’d also like to remind everyone that this is a peak period for people driving under the influence of alcohol. If in doubt, do not drink and if you do, don’t drive. It’s not worth it.

------

Please also give a thought to preparing your vehicles for winter.

Ensure batteries are in good condition, anti-freeze is available and treads are good on tyres. For those who must be on the road in freezing weather, consider tyre chains and snow shovels as additions to your boot kit.

------

With the darkness falling early and the cold weather close behind, we would ask everyone to be aware of their surroundings and their neighbours.

I’m sure most are aware of the incidents in Woodley and Winnersh. We are continuing to support our colleagues in Woodley with high visibility patrols in areas popular with dog walkers and this includes locations in the Twyford Neighbourhood area. If you see us, please stop us for a chat.

With this in mind we would be grateful if you could give thought to helping us find you. From the road it can be very difficult for Emergency Services to see house numbers. In an emergency, knowing which property we are outside and whether the numbers are increasing or decreasing could be the difference between life and death.

Please give a thought to using reflective numbers on your property and turning on lights to help us find you as quickly as possible. The same principle applies when out and about. Wherever possible please use high visibility clothing or use removable reflective strips when out walking or riding and consider taking a torch with you.

For parents, we appreciate that dark clothes and hoody might look more fashionable than hi-vis jackets and reflective patches. But we’d much rather your children were visible than shadows cycling along dark roads. Please help us in our encouragement to your young ones to use lights and reflective clothing. Bike lights and reflective patches could be a great stocking filler…

------

And finally, from all of us on the Twyford Neighbourhood Policing Team, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
