Understanding printing in Alma and controlling printing to different locations /

There are two main ways to print in Alma

1.  Using printers which have a predefined email address

2.  Using a software such as Namtuk to route printing to different printers

1. Using printers which have a predefined email address

Many newer printers come with a predefined email address. Here for example we have a HP DeskJet printer with an email address of

As it states above, the user can “Send an email or attachments to your printer’s email address and HP ePrint will print the email and any supported attachments.”

In Alma we can also define a printer with an email address (via the Fulfillment Configuration Menu > General > Printers). Here for example we have defined the HP DeskJet printer with the above email address for the main library default circulation desk.

Now we will print a Call Slip for the main library default circulation desk.

And we see that it is printed at the HP Desk Jet printer defined above

2. Using a software such as Namtuk to route printing to different printers

Namtuk (http://namtuk.com and in German at http://www.automatischedruckenemail.de/ ) is known as an “automatic email manager”.

It evaluates new emails in an inbox and then processes them according to predefined rules. One of the rules can state to print the email to a specific printer depending on attributes of the email. These attributes can be the email or name of the sender, text in the body of the mail, or many other options.

This is an advantage over Outlook rules, as Outlook allows for automatic printing only at the default printer of the PC. Namtuk allows for making a rule to print at any printer installed on the PC.

Here we will now show two different rules for printing on two different printers.

For example in the following two screenshots we can see that if the email contains text “Resource request Slip Letter” (for example the hold request slip) then the email will be printed on “Samsung SCX-6545 – Near Shaked”

In the next two screenshots we can see that if the email contains text “Borrowing Activity Letter then the email will be printed on a different printer than above. It will be printed on “Samsung SCX-6545 – Near Narkis”.

Now a letter with text “Resource request Slip Letter” arrives

And it prints on “Samsung SCX-6545 – Near Narkis”

Next a letter with text “Borrowing Activity Letter” arrives.

And it prints “Samsung SCX-6545 – Near Narkis”
