Tweaked Final Exam Essay
Prompt: Choose one of the themes from the novel Tweaked and define it using the novel, your reading, and experience.
The following are some example theme words you may define: addiction, family, enabler, despair, destruction, hope. If you come up with any others, please clear these with Ms. Granneman before your write your definition.
Brainstorm: Come up with as many synonyms and examples of the word you have chosen. Establish a criteria for your word.
Evidence/Rule- Give the evidence from your brainstorm list and explain the rule and how that lead to or defines your word.
Evidence / RuleClaim: Write a basic one sentence definition that you will expand through your essay.
EX. In order for an act to be courageous, it must have risk and contribute to the common good.
Murder is the act of killing someone on purpose using a deadly weapon or deadly bodily force.
Paragraphs: In order to prove your claim and thoroughly analyze the diction, how many body paragraphs will you need? Highlight the evidence and rules that you think will best demonstrate and prove your definition.

Write a topic sentence for each body paragraph:
2-In order for a person to be courageous, the act they perform must have some threat to them, either physically, financially, emotionally, or socially.
3-When a person risks death to save another, this meets the criteria for courage.
4-Courage means that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.
5-My grandfather was a perfect example of courage, because his life was in jeopardy as his fought for his country in Germany during WWII, fighting to protect the American people and freedom.
Write your introduction paragraph:
Give background from the novel and what lead to thinking about the word.
Write your body paragraphs, using your topic sentences as guides.
Remember you must include the direct quotes with citations from the novel, but also include personal examples.
Write a conclusion in which you offer insight and reflection on the overall theme of the novel and the meaning of the word.
Edit your paragraphs.
Type up the paragraphs correcting any errors.
