Description:

I have designed this course to provide students with a well-rounded music experience in performance. In this program students will continue to advance their musical abilities and expand their highest potential in music performance through effective rehearsals, self-criticism, and quality instruction on their instrument, both as a group member and as a solo performer. This ensemble is compiled of students from grades 9-12.

Objectives:

The members of the concert band will prepare a wide variety of compositions. Students will explore different styles of music throughout this year. My main goal is to provide a high quality performance based ensemble.

Required Materials:

Instrument

Folder with music

Pencil

Grades:

Concerts:Includes dress rehearsals

Participation:Includes attendance and behavior in class. This will be taken daily.

Tests:Includes all playing and written tests

Reflection:Includes the concert reflection after each concert. A paragraph summary is required from all students to receive full credit.

* Students will have the opportunity to receive a 1 point extra credit towards their participation grade for every pep band game attended, aside from their required pep band games. Additional extra credit may be determined by the director.

Policies:

Students must be in the Music Wing before 11th period. Every student must be in their assigned seat with music, a pencil, and prepared to play no later than 5 minuets after the bell. If you are late and do not have a note from your previous teacher then your daily grade will be lowered. Disruption of any kind during class (talking, horseplay, etc.) will lower your daily grade as well.

Concert Dress:

Men: Black button up shirt (no polo shirts) and black pants (no cargo pants). Black dress shoes are required, as well as long black dress socks.

Women: Black dress, black shoes.

Rehearsal Philosophy:

Every moment of rehearsal is an opportunity to develop your musicianship. This can be accomplished by:

-Performing at your very best quality every time

-Listening and analyzing to others’

-Applying to what you have learned to your own performance

Concert/Dress Rehearsal Dates:

It is important that we keep a perfect attendance record for all concerts and dress rehearsals (remember attendance grades will be given). Please check the calendar for concert dates. There will be afterschool dress rehearsals before each concert day. These will be posted on the calendar and addressed to the students.
