Upper Clun
Community Wildlife Group
Wildlife is an important part of our landscape and natural heritage. Much of it is disappearing. Community Wildlife Groups give people a chance to do something about that. We hope you will join in, particularly by helping with our surveys.
Aims & Objectives
The Group
· Undertakes survey work to establish the status of key bird and plant species and habitats
· Encourages and enhances local interest in wildlife
· Actively promotes conservation.
Survey Work
We need new members to help with our survey work
· Lapwings, Curlews and Other Birds
· Wild Flowers
· Butterflies
· Wetland & Wildlife Sites
Interest in the area and enthusiasm are far more important than detailed knowledge. Experts help the Group, and provide training to anyone who wants it on identification, and how to carry out a simple survey and record the results. It’s easy and enjoyable, and members learn new skills.
Area of Operation
We cover the catchment area of the River Clun west of Clun, including the valleys of the River Unk and the Folly Brook, plus the part of the Bettws y Crwyn parish that is outside the River Clun catchment area. This is around 120 square kilometres
Membership
Anyone can join who lives or works in the area, or has an interest in its wildlife, and who wants to actively contribute to local knowledge and conservation. Membership is free.
Members get periodic mailings about how to get involved, invitations to events, and an Annual Report. Those who provide an email address also regularly get additional information. If you want to join, send your contact details to the Secretary (see overleaf).
Other Activities
The programme overleaf lists a series of walks to introduce new members to the special Birds and Wild Flowers of the area. All welcome.
We also operate nest box schemes for Woodland and Garden Birds, Barn Owls and Dippers; organise wildlife talks (part of the Clun & Bishop’s Castle Branch of the Shropshire Wildlife Trust programme); and hold an Annual BBQ and Social.

Annual Public Meeting
The annual meeting, each November, considers survey results for the current year, plans for the following year and conservation action, and elects the Management Committee. Notice is sent to all members. Contact the Secretary to join.
