JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE OF POST: Mental Health Deputy Manager
JOB SUMMARY: Develop and lead a small team to provide valuable out of hours mental health support within the community – working closely with partners and external community resources
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Project Manager – Carol Lawrence
BASED AT: 2a Grosvenor Park, Tunbridge Wells. Kent TN1 2BD
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide leadership in order to develop the café ensuring it’s success and productivity
- Devise, with project worker, Volunteers, and participants, an effective programme of wellbeing based activities that will provide opportunities for growth and engagement for
- Cultivate a tranquil café environment and ensure appropriate refreshments are always available and served
- Deliver personal development opportunities and activities for those that access the service
- Arrange information sessions and guest speakers
- Initiate and develop Peer Support Champions who’ll share their lived experience with people accessing the service
- Develop an information resource, self-help library and promote appropriate local resources
- Signpost to appropriate services, making full use of community resources and make referrals as necessary
- Provide guidance and mentoring to Crisis café team members (including volunteers)
- Ensure the café is always adequately covered to run with staff and volunteers, taking particular notice of charity lone working and best practice policies
- Ensure effective communication within the team
- Provide supportive supervision for all team members (including volunteers)
- Appoint suitable volunteers to support successful service delivery
- Establish effective links with our external partners (the police, GP’s, crisis teams etc) with specific emphasis being given to referrals
- Producestatistical reports and measured outcomes as required by funders
- Closely monitor the quality of the service provided and initiate improvements to enhance successful service delivery and continued funding

- Maintain concise, detailed, accurate and up to date client records in line with charity policy
- Manage a small petty cash float
- Ensure the café runs smoothly, regularly communicating issues or problems to Line Manager as they arise.
- Perform all duties in accordance with MHR’s policies and best practice procedures, paying specific attention to data protection, confidentiality, safeguarding, equality & diversity
- Ensure safety and wellbeing for all clients, adhering to charity health and safety policies at all times
- Undertake other reasonable duties as required by your manager including monthly supervision with Project Manager.
PERSON SPECIFICATION - ESSENTIAL
- Knowledge, understanding and empathy for vulnerable adults with specific mental health expertise
- A proven track record of successful team working
- Commitment to working with volunteers
- Leadership and project management skills
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral
- Ability to keep calm in a crisis, and handle challenging situations with confidence
- Ability to be non-judgemental, fair, consistent, sensitive and discreet when dealing with confidential information
- IT Literate with working knowledge and understanding of the Microsoft Suite in particular, outlook, word and excel
- Ability to work well using own initiative and manage time and tasks effectively
- Commitment to establishing excellent working relationships with external partners and local resources
- Commitment to proactive engagement within the local community
- Ability to interpret and collate statistical data and provide detailed reports for measuring outcomes and quality of service
PERSON SPECIFICATION – DESIRABLE
- Experience of working in a similar mental health service delivery project
- Life skills or interests that can be used to promote mental wellbeing - such as music, art, crafts
- Relevant social care qualification
