Troubleshooting Checklist

  1. Are you getting “FCSS Domain not available” message?
Tip: Make sure the green cord is firmly plugged into the back of the computer and also into the data port on the wall. All other power cables need to be plugged into the computer and wall. Try unplugging it, blowing on the ports and cables to remove dust, and then plugging it back in.

  1. Can’t log in? Is there a green blinking light on the back of the computer next to where the green cord plugs in? If not, see the tip below!
Tip: Borrow an adjacent working computer’s network cable. Look for the light again.

  1. Is the user name and password correct? Students may not have typed number correctly. (Ex: Bobby Jones would be Bj12345! – last 5 digits of SS #. See Consent Tab in IC for the 5 digits noted in the Student Portal box)
Tip: Teacher or other student tries logging on with their user name and password. If that works, then the problem is with the log-on account NOT the computer.

  1. Has the user attempted to log on a different computer?
Tip: if a user can’t log on at any computer; there is probably something wrong with that account.

  1. Is the printer plugged into an electrical outlet, and is thenetwork cable running from the printer to the computer you are trying to print from?

  1. Do you know which printer the computer has directed the print job to?
Tip: Choose Print from the File menu and look at the name of the printer in the dialog
box. This tells you where to pick up your work!

  1. Is there paper and toner or ink in the printer?
Tip: Check the paper supply. Is the paper jammed? Carefully remove the paper jam and try printing again. Check the ink or toner supply.

  1. Try restarting the computer and turning the printer off and back on.

  1. Is the monitor plugged into the computer and to an electrical outlet?

  1. Is the monitor turned on?

  1. Will a different monitor work with the same computer?
If so, then you can say in your service request that the problem is with the monitor not the computer and if not, then you know the problem is with the computer not the monitor.

Problem: My stylus won’t work with the whiteboard

  1. Is the whiteboard plugged into the electrical outlet beneath the board?

  1. Have you tried a known working stylus from your neighbor?

  1. Did you plug in all cables securely before powering up the laptop/notebook?

  1. Did you shut down the laptop, unplug all cables and then re-plug all into laptop?

  1. Is your stylus cracked? See Jerry for a new one. Put carpet/rug under your board!

  1. Is there is a red X?
Tip: Right click on the red X, choose Configure.The ACTIVdevice port should say “Search”. Be sure it is set to Automatic Start and NOT to Manual Start. Click Start.
Problem: There is no image on the whiteboard, only a blue screen.
Tip: Press the Fn + F4 keys at the same time. You may have to do it twice.
