FAREWELL WEEKEND FOR FATHER KC

As you all know by now, Fr. KC will be leaving us on Sunday, July 25th. We will be gathering at Holy Family Hall following all the weekend Masses July 10th and 11th to share our farewell wishes with him. Refreshments will be available. Please join us to extend your friendship, well wishes and appreciation for all the service he has given to our Parish Community.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION

We have been informed that Fr. Paul Ekeh who is to be coming here to replace Fr. KC will not be arriving as we expected. Because of Immigration Laws and paper work he may not be here until August. Fr. Becker is in the process of making some arrangements to have a priest to help cover the needs of the parish until Fr. Paul arrives.

GUADALUPE SOCIETY MEMBERS

will gather on Sunday, July 11th at the 11:00 am Mass. The rosary, meeting and potluck lunch will be held in Holy Family Hall following the Mass. Members are encouraged to attend.

HOLY TRINITY FESTIVAL AUGUST 14TH AND 15TH

Plans for the Festival are underway. This year we are celebrating 125 years since the church was dedicated.

We will be accepting quality items for the Silent Auction, usable Christmas items for the Christmas Booth and also non-perishable grocery items for the Country Store.

Raffle tickets - Because it is against State Gambling Regulations to mail raffle tickets, you may purchase them at the Pastoral Center during office hours. We will also be selling raffle tickets in the vestibule of the church before and after each Mass beginning next weekend.

Outside vendors are welcome on Sunday, August 15th. If you are interested in renting a booth space, please call Louise at the Pastoral Center, 846-3369 x 14.

OUR THANKS

A very special “thank you” to Juanita Lamorie for the beautiful lamp, that was donated, to put on the organ. It is so nice to not have to move the lamp back and forth from the organ to the piano. Your gift is greatly appreciated! God bless.

RECIPES WANTED !

So many folks have asked to buy St. Joseph Cookbooks but we no longer have those available and we will not be able to reprint them because of copyright laws. We are asking for your favorite recipes to put together a new Parish Cookbook. These cookbooks make wonderful gifts to pass on to family members and keep Mom’s traditional, favorite recipes into the new generations. Please bring your recipes to the Pastoral Center.

A SEASONAL REMINDER

Now that it is summer, please remember that the clothing ladies, young women, teenagers and girls wear to weekend and weekday Masses, be modest and appropriate. Short skirts, halter tops, short shorts, revealing tops and clothing that exposes more than it covers should not be worn to Mass. Please be respectful.

Stained Glass Windows

The roles of Jesus, Mary, Joseph, God, The Blessed Trinity and the Saints have been communicated to us through the symbol of stained glass. This is a key Catholic characteristic—sacramentality. Simply put, this means that God is made personal and concrete through ordinary actions and words, as well the saints. Stained glass emerged with the great Gothic cathedrals of the Middle Ages. During a time when few people could read or write, these churches took on the role of “bibles in stone.” When people came to these churches, as we still do to ours today; they saw characters from the Scriptures, scenes from the life of Jesus and images of the saints and Mary. The Christian journey that they struggled to live daily is revealed in the stained glass images that are portrayed for us.

Tuesday, July 6 is the feast of Maria Goretti, child martyr. Born in 1890, Maria was twelve years old when her beloved father died in 1902. She was put in charge of the family while her mother, Assunta, worked in the fields. Allessandro Sernelli, a nineteen year old man who along with his father lived with the Goretti family, was someone who spent much time reading magazines of a questionable nature. On July 1, knowing she was alone, he attacked Maria growling, “Submit or die!” Maria, repelling his advances, replied, “Death, but not sin!” which so angered Allessandro that he fatally stabbed her over and over. She forgave him from her deathbed and he went to prison unremorseful until Maria came to him in a dream vision. Maria was canonized in 1950. It was the first time both a Saint’s mother and a Saint’s murderer attended a canonization, as Allessandro was now a Capuchin Franciscan lay brother. Maria Goretti is the patroness of teenage girls and a model of purity for youth.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS

The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, also known as the RCIAis the process of study and preparation for adults wishing to become Catholics and/or receive the sacrament of Confirmation, if they were not confirmed as before the age of 18. It is a year of study and prayer that prepares and educates the individual for full initiation into the Catholic Faith. If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a Roman Catholic, please call the Pastoral Center and ask for Louise. RCIA sessions will begin in September after Labor Day.

ATTENTION EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS: FOR YOUR INFORMATION

When Deacon Phil is present to assist the presider at weekend Masses, it is his responsibility and privilege to cleanse the sacred vessels after Holy Communion. If you are a Eucharistic Minister at a Mass where Deacon Phil is assisting, please allow him to fulfill his responsibilities in this capacity. After Holy Communion, the Eucharistic Ministers should bring the sacred vessels to the credence table and then return to their pews, unless otherwise requested to stay and help. Hopefully, this will alleviate any confusion there may be regarding the cleaning of sacred vessels after Holy Communion. If Deacon Phil is not present, Eucharistic Ministers serving at any given Mass should follow the procedure already established for cleansing the sacred vessels. Thank You for your understanding.

A Symbol of the Church

Lighted Candle: These suggest Jesus’s words, “I am the light of the world,” John 8:12. They also represent his twofold nature—human and divine, when two candlesticks are used.
