HOPE-K

Trinational Health Council (THC)

HOPE-K Trinational Health Council has been in existence since the mid-1960’s, originally as the Amistad Binational Council for Del Rio, Ciudad Acuña, Piedras Negras and Eagle Pass. In 2001, Eagle Pass and Piedras Negras split to become an independent BHC (HOPE BHC). Del Rio/Cd. Acuña retained the Amistad BHC name. In 2005, the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas joined the HOPE and it became the HOPE-K Trinational Health Council

The HOPE-K Council meets regularly the last Thursday of every month, hosted alternately by Piedras Negras, Eagle Pass or the Kickapoo Nation.

Composition—HOPE-K is made up of members from Eagle Pass, Maverick County, Piedras Negras and the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas.

Vision

An organization committed to effective coordination, collaboration and communication among the local public health systems.

Mission

To promote good health, welfare and quality of life by providing to our community: Information; Education; Access to the Public Health Systems.

Priorities

A strategic plan exercise was developed during the spring of 2008 and its results were presented at the Binational Health Councils Strategic Planning Workshop of July 25, 2008 in San Antonio, Texas. The priority areas identified were the following:

1.  Strengthening the Organizational and Fiscal Capacity of the Binational Health Council

2.  Dengue Fever

3.  Diabetes/Obesity/Nutrition

4.  Tuberculosis

5.  Mental Health

6.  Early Warning Infectious Disease Surveillance System
