PRMChas broken ground for renovation of operating rooms. Will be larger rooms however, no increase in number of rooms.
Rural areas are understaffed in medical manpower. We are still just maintaining the status quo. Meeting with consultants to do a feasibility study on developing a local medical school.
Maryland has a structural deficit of $1 Billion or $1.3 Billion dollars. Fully half the burden has shifted to the hospitals. May see reduced Medicaid services and reduced payments to physicians. Jake discussed AHEC’s recruitment efforts. Studies show that 50% of medical students after completion of residency practicestay within 50 mile radius of their residency.
Worcester County Board of Education – Fred Grant
The last three years Maryland has been #1 in the nation and Worcester County is the #1 county in Maryland. Worcester’s success is owed to Dr. Jon Andes and all the community support from Worcester County. This is a community effort. Working with Worcester Health on car seats, healthy lifestyles, Network of Care, school safety, and gangs.
Fred works with the Wellness Council which focuses on wellness and healthy lifestyles in terms of families.
Worcester County is not immune to gangs. School Board is very cognizant of safety and is committed to maintaining safety in our schools.
