Travel a world away. Make a world of difference. Teach in Bhutan.

Live and teach in the Kingdom of Bhutan, a secluded and mystical country, virtually untouched by the modern world. Develop new teaching techniques, share expertise with local teachers and steep yourself in the concept and practice ofGross National Happiness, all while exploring an authentic Himalayan culture.

This is a rare chance to work in an education system that is in the midst of an exciting and innovative transformation, as Bhutan'sMinistry of Education works to transition to a more interactive, thoughtful and participatory system of education.

Who are we?

The Bhutan Canada Foundation (BCF) works to further the development of Bhutan and its people through programs that impact its educational and social institutions. BCF believes that education is key to the thoughtful transformation of the young democracy of Bhutan. BCF achieves its goals through partnerships with the people of Bhutan, through the provisioning of teachers, materials and scholarships, to encourage the growth of a vibrant and universal system of education based on collaboration and knowledge exchange, thus carrying on a legacy of Canadian and Bhutanese cooperation and goodwill.

Why are we looking to hire teachers to teach in Bhutan?

The Teach in Bhutan program is a main focus for the Foundation. Currently, the Kingdom of Bhutan faces a shortage of nearly 1,000 teachers, primarily in the country’s remote rural regions. At the request of the Ministry of Education in Bhutan, BCF works to address this shortage by sending teachers to areas most affected. We are seeking qualified elementary and secondary math, science, English, and special education specialists to fill positions in publicly-funded schools based on the needs of Bhutan’s Ministry of Education. These year-long contracts run from January–December. Teachers receive a local salary and accommodation is secured prior to arrival.

Recruited teachers will be committed to the same aims as the foundation – to support and promote the goals of the Bhutanese Ministry of Education in its pursuit of excellence in education. They will be interested in a life-changing experience that will involve personal growth and will result in making a difference in both the lives of their students and in the communities in which they live.

I appreciate your effort and assistancein promoting opportunitiesfor Canadian and American educators to make a difference and valuable contribution to the country and people of Bhutan. For more information, please contact me at or 1.647.233.6607 or visit us at
