Supporting children’s successful transition to school

This workshop will provide Prep teachers and school curriculum leaders with opportunities to understand the research and practices that support children’s successful transition to school.

Who should attend

Prep teachers, including from Early Childhood Development Programs, Principals, Deputy Principals, Heads of Curriculum and Heads of Special Education Services.

It is preferable to have two people from each school attend — a Prep teacher and a curriculum leader.

Outline

This workshop will focus on continuity of curriculum and learning as children transition into Prep, including:

  • principles and practices for positive transition
  • pedagogies for early years learning
  • continuity of curriculum
  • data and information to support continuity of learning.

Participants have the opportunity to:

  • explore current research on transition to school
  • network with other teachers and curriculum leaders in your region
  • reflect on current strategies and plan ways to turn evidence to actions.

This workshop has relevance to elements of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers: one, two, three, four and six.
