Transfer Applicants currently in a Nursing program or having completed part of a Nursing program at another university may apply to transfer to the 2nd or 3rd year of the Nursing program. Applicants cannot be considered until all of the courses (or equivalent courses at another university) required of UPEI 1st year Nursing students have been completed. Those applicants not able to complete all of the courses required of 1st year UPEI Nursing students must apply as a first year student, but if accepted may receive transfer credit. Students dismissed from a Nursing program as result of a clinical failure, or students who have failed two Nursing courses, are not eligible to apply as a transfer applicant to the 2nd year of the program.
Please Note: (1) The University of Prince Edward Island Nursing Program is based on the “PEI Conceptual Model of Primary Health Care”. Students whose previous Nursing program did not include Primary Health Care must apply to the first year of the program. If accepted students may receive transfer credit.
(2) The Nursing Admissions Committee adheres strictly to the English Language Proficiency requirements of the University of Prince Edward Island. Information regarding the English Language Proficiency Requirement can be found at http://www.upei.ca/registrar/3_english_proficiency
Holland College Articulated Agreement Applicants (graduates of the Holland College LPN program since 2009) that have
completed university level courses in Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Microbiology, and two Introductory Psychology
courses, as well as grade 12 university preparatory courses in English, Math, Chemistry and Biology, are eligible to apply for transfer to the 2nd year of the Nursing Program. Successful applicants receive a total of 27 hours of transfer credit and are granted 2nd year standing. Applicants who have completed the grade 12 university preparatory courses in English, Math, Chemistry and Biology but have not completed the university level courses in Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Microbiology, and two Introductory Psychology must apply as a first year student, but if accepted will receive transfer credit.
** WHETHER APPLYING AS A TRANSFER OR ARTICULATED AGREEMENT APPLICANT, THE FINAL DECISION REGARDING AN APPLICATION TO TRANSFER IS SUBJECT TO THE AVAILABILITY OF SPACE IN THE NURSING PROGRAM
ALL Transfer and Holland College Articulated Agreement Applicants Submit
1) the undergraduate application form and $50 application fee ($75 for International applicants)
2) this Transfer Supplementary Application form
3) official post-secondary transcript(s) for any post-secondary study taken. For those enrolled in courses, arrange to have your transcripts sent when 1st semester final results can be reported
4) if not currently enrolled (out one semester or more), a resume indicating what you have been doing since last enrolled
Additional Materials for Transfer Applicants ONLY:
1) a course syllabus for all Nursing courses taken or currently in-progress including details of any clinical portion
2) a letter from the Nursing school you are currently attending or have previously attended which states you are (or were when last attended) in good standing with no academic restrictions in the program.
3) if required, an acceptable English Language Proficiency Test result (information can be found at the link listed above)
Additional Materials for Holland College Articulated Agreement Applicants ONLY:
1) your final high school transcript (and upgrades if applicable)
2) arrange to have a letter sent from a clinical instructor from Holland College directly to the Registrar’s Office at UPEI who can discuss your clinical performance during your LPN program
ALL transfer and articulated agreement applicants MUST complete the box below, listing each course taken (or will be taken) in order to meet the minimum requirements to apply (Deadline: June 30). Please note that Articulated Agreement applicants are not required to complete Nurs 101, Nurs 102 or FN 102. Please Note : (1) Letters of recommendation are not accepted.
(2) To meet the application deadline your application package must be postmarked or dropped off at the Registrar’s Office no later than February 15, 2014. Please note that transcripts can follow if your school is not able to report your 1st semester final grades at the time you make application.
(3) Once determined that a seat is available for a transfer applicant, before an offer of admission is made the applicant may be required to write math competency tests at the level they are entering.
(4) If an offer of a seat to the School of Nursing is made to you a non-refundable deposit of $500 is required (the deadline for providing this deposit will be stated in your acceptance letter). Extensions to this deadline are not granted. As well, a criminal record and vulnerable sector check is required for all accepted applicants.
