How to use the template

To use for planning, consider the following:
Review the relevant training curriculum which includes the training goals and indicators.
Select the element you will be covering in your training session. Keep in mind that an element can be completed in one or more sessions.
Identify the key expected outcomes of your session.What are you aiming to achieve? What will trainees learn or gain from the session?
First, provide General Information
- Create a name for the training session that represents what is covered in the session and is easily understood by others (including specific areas and topics within the element);
- Provide the name and email of the person who created the session so they can be contacted in the future;
- State the duration of your training session to clearly identify the time required for it;
- Provide a brief description of the training which summarizes the activities, elements, outcomes and experiential learning process being used to give another trainer an idea of how and when to use this session.
Next, describe the Training Session
- Provide a complete description of the training session, using one row to explain each activity in detail. Consider each step from the starting point, through the middle and to the end.
- List and describe the activity or activities that you are running in this training session in order to get to the expected outcomes:
- In the column ‘Activity’ describe what the trainer and trainees do in detail, including the material required.
- In the column ‘Phase and Indicators’ make the connection to the learning process. Identify which phase(s) of the “learning by doing” or experiential learning cycle are being implemented:
- Do: A concrete or hands-on activity(game, role-play, video)
- Reflect: Individual or groups thinking about or sharing experiences to more deeply understand an A, S, or K (discussion, writing, artistic expression)
- Generalize: Explore how an A, S, K can be developed or how it fits into the bigger picture (action planning, discussion)
- Apply: To practice a new A, S, or K to fully incorporate into your behavior (role playing, leading an activity)
In addition, identify which indicator(s) is covered at each step. If your session covers more than one element and goal, you should also use this column to explain which one is covered by which activity.
- In the column ‘time’, indicate how long it will take to complete this ativity.
Lastly, share Lessons Learned from your training experience
- Report what you believe was the greatest learning achievement for the trainees as a result of the session and provide an explanation or evidence to support your statement;
- Share any tip or suggestion you might have for future facilitators. We would all benefit from what you have experienced and your warnings and highlights could prevent and better prepare others
