Nottinghamshire Women’s Aid (15 people) November 2017

I found today’s training both interesting and informative. The content will be put to good use in my future practice and I am already considering the ways in which I can increase my own awareness around LGBT issues and share my awareness with others – thank you very much. Very well delivered, interesting and full of information – the training has supported my own awareness. This has been very interesting training, delivered at a steady pace so as not to overload with new information. I learned lots of new information including the everyday barriers that LGBT people encounter. I hope to be able to be more supportive and empathetic in the future. The traing was extremely informative. How it was delivered was interactive with powerful use of resources. Would be great if all staff were able to access this training. Amazing what the volunteers from the Network are doing for the LGBT community, working with organisations to raise awareness. Would be great of more resources are available for the Children and Young People’s workers to use when working with young people. The training today was informative and delivered by someone who has been involved with these issues for years, his understanding and eloquence of the subject made it interesting and my personal understanding has improved. The information and handouts were very useful, the traing was delivered at a good pace. It raised issues where the organisation and support offered could improve its service to women. Interesting and informative, good presentation and good to have the handouts. The trainer was very knowledgable and friendly, the resources provided are packed with groups and organisations to which our organisation can also signpost. Very informative – some of the statistics were very shocking. The delivery was engaging, humorous (in an appropriate manner), professional, friendly, clear and understandable and approachable. Great to have the support of LGBT specialists to approach for guidance – thank you. Very good training – lots of useful resources and information and ideas to promote awareness for our organisation. Really enjoyed the training – David was very professional and interesting, very easy and clear to understand, brilliant way to spread the message – thank you.

Excellent and thought provoking. One of the best training sessions I have attended. Thank you for the training, it was very informative – the DVD was very powerful. The trainer was very good at delivering the topic. Very interesting – now trying to think of ways we can incorporate links in Facebook etc. Very informative – useful to use within our practice. Really useful and educational session – thank you. Interesting and informative with up to date facts about support services which are still active. Enjoyed the session which was well delivered and I will take the information forward with families. Personally, I found the information given relevant, current and well-delivered; as a family support worker I feel the knowledge I have gained today will go far to support my families moving forward and learning to be inclusive. Very informative and interesting, lots of valuable leaflets etc, very good delivery style – kept me interested – thank you. Training excellent and very well delivered – subject matter led to reflection and questioning of service, knowledge and beliefs. Really enjoyed the training- lots of useful information available to support LGBT people that we can access to help and support families. The session was useful in raising my understanding and awareness. Really informative – the LGBT history and the North Notts College video were very impactive; relay enjoyed the session – thank you. Very helpful and interesting, especially the content and context to the reasons behind the non-reporting of hate crime. Very interesting – the history made me realise that the changes for the better are more recent than I realised. Very useful – the history gives context to current issues – a good workshop. The talk and activities were very helpful and delivered at a good pace. Very interesting and informative – all very enjoyable particularly the group sessions. Very useful indeed; especially the historical perspectives and the matter of fact, but well-informed approach – a much needed course. Extremely informative and engaging. Found the chronological journey really useful and appreciated the balance of information/discussion/activities. Would have liked more discussion about how gender can feel wrong and whether this is natural or a social construct. Liked the pace and presenter – David has a wealth of facts in his head; most enjoyable. The training was very useful as was the information pack; I would have liked some more examples and statistics of hate crime; David is passionate and knowledgeable – a great trainer. Very helpful in highlighting issues in a multi-disciplinary setting encouraging workers to see this as the responsibility of all of us working together. I was encouraged to think about the lived experiences of gay people and ways of actively encouraging people to open up to our organisations; there was also a balanced view given of religion. Very helpful – good to get a refresher and raise my awareness of current legislation, thank you. Enjoyed it all – a good training session, well delivered – the “coming out” scenario with the cards made coming out realistic. Very useful – an interesting and knowledgeable trainer made this course most informative. Very informative and relevant; enjoyed it all especially the history through the ages and its craziness. Very helpful interactive training. Very useful; appreciated the time to reflect on issues in more depth; great to raise awareness and get up-to-date info.

Very useful. I enjoyed the presentation style and the subject expertise. Excellent – should be mandatory for all staff. The trainer was very informative. Very informative and useful for my job role. It helped me understand why the LGBT community may not disclose hate crime against themselves. I gained information that I will be able to share with my colleagues – it was a very well-presented afternoon. All of the session was enjoyable and useful and gave me more of an understanding of the issues. I enjoyed the content of the course and the way it was shared. Very useful and informative – a lot of information was packed into the afternoon; I particularly enjoyed the group discussions. The follow up from discussions could have done with more time. I thought I knew quite a lot, but the course showed me that there is always more to learn. Very interesting and well hosted. The trainer’s mode of presentation and humour made it easy to digest – enjoyable and informative. I found the defining of words and seeing what other organisations are doing useful. The content was extremely useful, the history was very interesting and it was helpful to know the language to use/avoid and the barriers to reporting.

Confetti College (13 people) July 2017

Thanks – I thought the session was very well delivered; the trainer is very well informed! You have encouraged me to support our LGBT students, thank you. A relatable speaker with comprehensive knowledge and an obvious personal interest. A useful session – cleared up some definitions and ways to improve our dealing with LGBT students. Very informative and detailed and would be great to have a little more info on non-binary people. It was useful to learn new terminology and some history. Informative and useful to staff not in regular contact with LGBT students. Thank you. I valued the history and learning about its consequences and would like more on the needs of young LGBT people. It was a great chance to discuss these issues. Very informative – thank you. I found the history section less useful than the second half. A good session with lots of information. The interactive sections were particularly useful. Provided a good understanding of appropriate terms. Enjoyed having time for reflection and seeing options to employ LGBT issues in sessions.

Notts Police (10 people) June 2017

Helpful and informative. Expanded my knowledge of this area. I liked the different training styles and the relaxed and open discussion within the group – the trainer was very knowledgeable about the subject and how certain aspects can be used to advise the people we speak to on the phone. Very informative and interesting, especially the information about changing attitudes over the years. The short video was very good and would be good for new recruits and public-facing staff – the training could be part of training for new staff. I particularly enjoyed the history and the group work. Very interesting perspective, in many ways also transferrable to other minority groups. I enjoyed the varied day and the awareness around terminology; it was very helpful and informative – I believe this training should be mandatory. I learnt a few things like “coming out” and listening to people’s experiences. The old facts and laws – unbelievable! Great takeaway pack. Very well-presented. Very helpful and informative, interactive, lots of information shared – excellent presenter. It was very helpful, informative and inclusive, looking at the history and the present day – the whole thing made us think about the issues.

I found it very informative and interesting. I cannot believe some of these things happened in my life time. Surprising statistics, especially for recent ears. A very interesting presentation. Enjoyed the presentation and the real life stories and experiences – would have liked a few more from younger people.. Overall a good and interesting insight. Interesting to see how things have changed, but still a long way to go.

Age UK Mansfield April 2017 (12 people)

Informative, relevant and useful – excellent. Made me wonder if the service does enough to be positive about LGBT issues. Interesting, thought provoking, informative and inspiring! Thank you – everyone should experience this training. Lots of information I didn’t know as out there – made me think about how many older persons could be gay and hide it. Thank you – well-researched and presented. Some useful suggestions which can be easily implemented. Some good exercises to make people think and to start off discussions. A very clear presentation with some fun elements, but outlined the difficulties faced today. Very informative – really enjoyed the trainer and his delivery – I have learned something today. Great training, very informative in a relaxed manner; enhanced my knowledge – thank you. Thank you for your clear presentation – I will take away much to consider and think about, particularly when working with LGBT clients. Very informative and thought provoking session, well delivered with information to take away. Fabulous training session; very informative and engaging – I’ve learned a lot today that I didn’t know and I’ll be sure to implement it into my work.
