Training a Treasure

Out of the Fruit Basket: Peace

(Excerpts from Training a Treasure Framework that is compatible with any curriculum)

1.  Reflect on the scriptures about “order”. Is there a time of the day that is chaos in your classroom? Sit down and think through what you want that period of the day to look like. Write it down. Take photos. Then teach it to the children. Stick to it. Don’t waver! If you say, “Two books before naptime,” then be sure to only read two books before rest time. If you ever give in…you are in trouble! Tackle one chaotic period at a time. Soon you will be headed toward peace at that time of the day.

2.  Think “PRACTICE” all week. Remember…sometimes they just do not know the skills yet and need practice, practice, practice! What things could you plan to practice with your little ones this week?

3.  Are you willing to teach when it comes to things like whining? Giving the right words/tone to answer? Are you willing to use, “Say it like me,” or “Make your voice match mine,”?

4.  Use the story of The Good Samaritan. Read or tell the story to your children. Act it out together. Write down some of the things that the children/you learned from doing this…Make it fun!

5.  Read and re-read Proverbs 29:17 this week. Let it be your inspiration when you get discouraged. Remember, you have them all year long!
