Mirror Trading with Mirrovest

Most people have a long list of financial goals. This is why they consider investments that offer maximum returns. After all, your investments should provide the returns that will support all your goals.

History shows that the average return from investing in the stock markets and financial instruments is often higher than the average return of many other investments. An opportunity to achieve higher returns makes good sense for funding some immediate wants as well as the longer-term ones, such as early retirement.

SOCIAL MIRROR TRADING

It builds on the concept that the collective wisdom of many traders is better than the wisdom of one. By connecting traders from across South Africa, including the professionals, and sharing their real-time trades, you can make social decisions about how to trade and whom to follow.

If you’ve always wanted to trade the JSE, but simply haven’t had the courage or the expertise, mirror trading might just be your answer. At Mirrovest we’re all about getting the regular Joe involved in the JSE without the obvious associated risks. We say it’s unrealistic for everyone in this country to do an online course in share trading and be magically turned into the next Warren Buffet.

Why not leave the trading to well-informed, qualified individuals and simply do what they do, when they do it. This is what mirror or copy trading trading is all about.

In a nutshell, the concept of social trading is simple, yet the benefits are incredibly powerful. You are able to follow any of the traders on our trading platform who are consistently successful, including our experienced lead traders, and trade as they do. This means you are always able to go to where the opportunity lies.

You can:

·  match your portfolio to that of a lead trader/s and match their every trade. Our lead traders’ track records, positions and trades are verified and viewable on Mirrovest. This means you can see exactly how and what they are doing at any time.

·  use the information on our website to make your own decisions and trades.

Social Mirror trading is also a popular way of investing globally. Soon you’ll be able to connect with fellow traders all over the world and join them in making money!

MANAGING RISK

Managing Risk When Mirror Trading

For the potential rewards of trading, there are also some risks. Social trading in South Africa has the same risks as any other form of trading, so it is important to apply your own risk controls and trade responsibly.

When using our trading platform, we recommend that you keep in mind the following:

·  Trading involves both possible profits and losses, so do not trade with money you cannot afford to lose.

·  Follow the right traders. Check lead traders’ track records to see how successful they have been. Check their risk rating and see if your risk tolerance is similar to theirs.

·  We do not offer some investments/instruments on our platform with reasonably high inherent risk, such as highly leveraged products. We also provide functionality that can be activated to help limit losses.

·  Try to understand the financial instruments being traded by your selected lead trader/s and their strategies.

·  Read our blog for traders’ news and views to understand what they are doing, their outlook and why they apply their particular strategy.

INSTRUMENTS

Mirror Trading Financial Instruments

Mirrovest enables South African traders to trade with a variety of financial instruments including derivatives, equities and indices.

Derivatives Trading

Derivatives, such as futures contracts or options, are financial instruments derived from other forms of assets. There are two types: exchange-traded derivatives and over-the-counter derivatives. These products differ in terms of their legal nature and the way they are traded.

Derivatives trading differs from trading in other types of securities, as derivatives are based on promises. When someone buys an option on a stock, they are not trading the stock with someone right now; they are simply purchasing the right to buy or sell it in the future. Our contracts for difference and single stock futures trading gives investors exposure to a range of CFD trades. markets at very competitive rates.

Equity Trading

The Mirrovest online trading platform allows traders to buy and sell equities listed on the main Johannesburg stock exchange (JSE) and the ALT-X board. Equity trading is the most popular form of investment activity in South Africa’s financial markets.

Indices Trading

Investors can also use Mirrovest to trade indices like the ALSI40 through derivatives such as CFDs, futures or options.

Trading indices has some advantages over equity trading in that it allows investors to use a single instrument to gain exposure to a broader basket of stocks which make up the index. Different indices follow their own specialised grouping of stocks such as technology or, as in the case of the ALSI40, the country’s largest listed companies.

DERIVATIVES(CFDs)

Contracts for Difference Trading

GLOBALLY THE Globally the stockbroking world has been shaken by the arrival of contracts for difference(CFDs), a derivatives trade that allows investors to get exposure to shares without trading the shares themselves.

Derivatives Trading

1.  A contract for difference (CFD) is an unlisted instrument that is an agreement between a buyer and a seller.

2.  The two parties make effectively enter into a contract that the seller will pay the buyer the difference in value of a particular instrument on a daily basis for the period between when the contract is opened and when it is closed.

3.  The buyer will in return pay the seller the difference in price if its value decreases.

4.  The difference is determined by referring to an underlying instrument.

CFD contracts provide a means for an investor to hedge against risk exposure or to speculate when an exchange rate change appears imminent. CFDs enable investors to gear (leverage) their investment, while avoiding many of the costs and hassles of trading in the underlying instrument. Trading CFDs is more advanced than normal equity trading and should only be attempted by individuals who are comfortable with the concept of gearing.

INDICES

Indices Trading

Stock indices are lists of stocks. These may be global, national, sector or other indices. They cannot be purchased in the same way as you might purchase a share. Stock indices thus also cannot be traded directly, as they are not products in their own right. They exist to provide information, so a portion of an index cannot be bought or sold.

Instead, investors trade indices like the ALSI40 through derivatives such as CFDs, futures or options. In fact, stock indices are the most popular form of CFD trading. Our lead traders may take short and long-term positions on a vast range on indices. Furthermore, the Mirrovest trading platform allows many indices to be traded even when markets are closed.

JSE LISTED SHARES

JSE Listed Share Trading

The JSE has been connecting buyers and sellers of South Africa equities for more than 120 years and also offers you exposure to the broader African continent.
