Track and Field Team Rules and Information – 2011

Team Priorities:

1. Respect is the key rule of conduct in Spring Track. We request that you show respect to teammates, coaches, officials, the opposing team, and all equipment, including the track.

2. Team unity and spirit is imperative to the way a Team functions.

TEAM – There is no “I” in the word Team.

Negativity and complaining adversely affects the Team. We all cheer one another on!

3. ROI – Return on Investment. The more energy you put into something (Practice), the more you get out as a return (Performance).

Train and compete at 100%. You will enjoy the strength you gain as the season progresses.

General Team Rules:

1. Practice begins at 2:50 PM outside on the track. Place your belongings on the outside of the fence by the scorers’ shed. Take a warm up lap around the track, then meet at the far end of the field by the high jump area for PLYOS. Be ready to listen for instructions.

2. Dress code – shirts are to be worn at all times. The OVMS rules remain in effect. Be prepared with WARM clothing. We are OUTSIDE, even on some rainy days, so watch the weather forecast.

3. Oley Valley School District Rules apply at all times.

Attendance Policy:

1. NO unexcused absences. There must be a school-sanctioned excuse in order to be absent from practice. A note from a parent MUST be provided.

2. Never be absent the day before the day of a meet.

3. Every athlete is expected to stay until the end of all meets and ride the bus to and from away meets. Early departure from a track meet must include a one-day notice to the coaches, so that the notes can be given to the Athletic Director. There is a specific form to use for these situations.

Equipment Responsibilities:

1. Athletes that participate in events that require set up, take down, and use of equipment are responsible for their events and the equipment (i.e. high jump, long jump, pole vault, hurdles, starting blocks, shop put and discuss).

2. Each athlete is also responsible to care for and return his or her uniform at the end of the season.

3. Each athlete is responsible for his/her own personal belongings (backpack, cell phone, ipod, etc.) Neither the school district nor the coaches will replace lost, stolen, or broken items.

Discounts on Running Shoes:

Some local stores have provided the Oley Valley Middle School Track Team with discounts on running shoes and track spikes in the past. Please only purchase track spikes that are no longer than 3/16 in. You do not need to have “special” shoes to participate; your running sneakers (not soccer shoes) are fine.
