TITLE: Turf & Sports Field Maintenance Policy

POLICY STATEMENT

The Town of Rocky Mountain House has a wide variety of parks, sports fields and open spaces and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of these areas. The Turf & Sports Field Maintenance Policy establishes the guidelines for turf maintenance within our community.

Procedure:

Level 1

Town Buildings and Parks (25):

Centennial Campground and Park, Arena, Pool, Town Office, Library, Fire hall, Community Center, Recreation Office, Legion Park, Four Seasons Park, William Jessop Park, Mount view Park, Lichak Park, Lochearn Park, John Plathan Park, Day Park, Riverside Park, Swainger Park, McNutt Park, Kinsmen Park, Riverview Park, Arrowhead Park, Quinn Park, Creekside Park, Lecerf Park, Skate Park.

Grass Cutting:Approximately once per week

Grass Whipping:Approximately once per week

Debris Removal:Approximately once per week

Turf Height:Approximately 3” (inches)

Aeration:Every 2 years

Top Dressing:As required

Weed control:Organics turf management

Sports Fields:

Curtis Field, New Football Field, Baseball Diamonds (5), Lochearn & Pioneer Soccer Fields (5)

Grass Cutting:Approximately once per week

Grass Whipping:Approximately once per week

Debris Removal:Approximately once per week

Turf Height:Approximately 3” (inches)

Aeration:Every 2 years

Top Dressing:Once per season

Weed control:Herbicide Spraying (as needed)

Line marking:User groups responsibility

• Curtis Field and New football Field have irrigation only. These will be watered as needed throughout the season.

Level 2:

Highway11 and 11A, trail, and boulevards

Grass Cutting:Approximately once per week

Grass Whipping:Approximately once per week

Debris Removal:Approximately once per week

Turf Height:Approximately 3” (inches)

Aeration:Every 2 years

Top Dressing:Once per season

Weed control:Herbicide Spraying (as needed)

Level 3

Cemetery, Dog Park, Town Entrance signs (North and South) Water Treatment Plant and Lift Stations:

Grass Cutting:Approximately every second week

Grass Whipping:Approximately every second week

Debris Removal:Approximately every second week

Turf Height:Approximately 3” (inches)

Weed control:Herbicide Spraying (as needed) for cemetery only. Dog Park N/A.

Level 4

N.S.R.P., Retention Ponds, Pony Club, Petro Canada Trail, Lecerf/Highway 11 Berm, and Fish Pond:

Grass Cutting:Approximately twice per season

Grass Whipping:Approximately twice per season

Debris Removal:Approximately twice per season

Turf Height:Approximately 5” (inches)

Weed control:Herbicide Spraying (as needed)

Final approval: the Town of Rocky Mountain House Recreation, Parks and Community Services Department reserves the right to employ contracted services to perform turf maintenance.
