Insurance
· Have met with and have had several conversations with our Insurance agent(s) concerning the Town’s Insurance policies. The cost of the Town’s insurance and the items covered increase each year.
· Bonnie and I spend a lot of time with insurance issues.
Grange
· On the 22nd of April, I presented our Town Boards proclamation to the Stanford Grange. About 45 people attended the Grange Week Celebration. Several folks were honored for long time membership in the Grange. Our own Oliver Orton, NY State Grange Master, was written about in a NY Times story about the Grange and Stanford was mentioned several times.
Recreation
· Our recreation program is one of the best in the area. Our Rec. Park is admired by many other towns. It takes a lot of work by the Town Highway crew and summer help to get the Rec. Park as well as the ball fields in shape for the spring and summer programs. We spend about $145,000.00 each year in the recreation program, which includes about 30 part time summer employees. The Rec. Department currently has over $54,000.00 in their Rec. Capital Improvement Fund and the Haunted House Fund, which is set aside for Capital projects. The Tennis Court, Skate Board Park and other parts of the Rec. Park need improvement. I have been talking with Rich Dalzell, Sue Blouse and other Rec. Commission members about the needed repair and improvements.
Cablevision
· Our Cablevision contract ran out two years ago and they show no signs of willingness to negotiate a new contract. The old contract remains in force until a new one is signed. Cablevision has not fulfilled their first contract as they haven’t offered cable to many residents who live on back roads. There is also a question about the Town’s franchise fee of 5% of their gross revenues. The State’s Public Service Commission is working on this to clarify this law. We just received a check for $39,828.00 for the 2007 franchise fee. I will be meeting with Roger Connor form Cablevision in the near future to work on a new contract.
