President’s Report
Carl Fernandez
Since this is our last report for the year, I would like to THANK this year’s Board for ALL their support. We set out to make some changes and I feel we will be a better Club because of them. The biggest change for 2011. Our Roster and Divot as we know it will no longer be mailed out. Instead, we will post them on our web site (www.amgc.com). With participation and membership down, we needed to make some changes. Total cost saving will be over $6,000 per year. Please make sure that we have your correct email address on file and provide any changes that may occur. For those who do not have a way to receive an email. We plan on posting a copy of the current Divot in the breezeway and in Birdie’s.
Congratulations to our 2011 Officers and Board of Directors
President – Joe Slim Secretary – Craig Palmer
1st Vice President Tournament Chairman – Carl Fernandez Board of Directors Member – Greg Barnicoat
2nd Vice President Handicap Chairman – Steve Skelton Board of Directors Member – Dan Cruz
Treasurer – Mike Kreglow Board of Directors Member – Eric Moreno
Wishing you a safe and healthy Holiday Season!

/ Midwest Wholesale Lighting, represented by AMGC members, Larry Rosales and John Thies, is our Tournament Sponsor for the month of December.
Midwest Wholesale Lighting, also known as “The Lighting People,” is family-owned and has been in business for more than 48 years (specializing in lighting only). Midwest is one of the largest independent lighting distributors on the West Coast. The AMGC is grateful for the continued support that the Frandzel family (own and operate Midwest) has given to the Club. We gratefully anticipate welcoming a foursome of their choice again this year. Remember to thank both Larry and John of Midwest Lighting on Tournament Day for their generous sponsorship. Don’t forget “if you need lighting, you need Midwest Wholesale Lighting” – (323) 957 6013 (Direct line) and Larry and John can be contacted at (323) 957-6035. Happy Holidays from the Midwest Lighting family to all AMGC members and their families!

The deadline for the 2011 Application for Renewal Membership is the December 2nd General Meeting night. The cost is the same for 2011: $85.00 for Full Regular membership and $65.00 Associate membership. Applications have been mailed out with your Divot and they are also available in the Pro Shop as well as on-line at AMGC.org. Applications can be dropped off at the Pro Shop or mailed to: AMGC, P.O. Box 164, Alhambra, CA 91802 If renewal is not received by deadline, the SCGA requires the Club to inactive members in the GHIN System. Note: This year’s application includes a survey with a few questions to assist the Board with planning for 2011 events. I hope everyone will take part in the survey.

You may have heard of “Mr. October,” well guess what? We now have a “Mr. 57.” Jerry Wisz is playing in our sponsored tournament, sets a NEW course record by shooting a sizzling 57. Witness to this was his wife, daughter and son. What a great way to have spent time with the family. GREAT job Jerry.
November’s “Hole-by-Hole” result by Team, have now been posted on the bulletin board in Birdie’s. This month’s format is 2 Man Triple Crown. We will play three different formats. The first six holes will be a “Scramble.” Holes 7-12 will be “Best Ball,” and the final six holes will be “Alternate shot.” If you need a partner, sign-up as a single and I will match you up.
I would like to THANK my Tournament Committee members for they help this year and at the same time would like to invite other members to step up and volunteer their time and work on the Tournament Committee for 2011. I am looking for about 12 members to help with 2011. Please see or email me if you are interested.
Next month’s format will be our Individual Stroke.

Treasurer’s Report
Mike Kreglow
I would first like to thank Ken Tang, Ben Bartlett and Chris Crespin for winning so much money as partners in the last tournament (we are splitting everything). Second, 2010 was a very challenging year for the Club to keep within budget. I think the Board did an excellent job in making decisions on what would be funded and what events and expenses we had to eliminate. We should finish 2010 at zero balance or at best, with a very small surplus. The Board has taken some steps to reduce expense in 2011. We will no longer be sending the Divot through the U.S. Mail or the annual Roster. Instead, they will be posted on the Web site (www.amgc.org). However, 2011 will still be a challenge if we continue to see low participation and a drop off in membership. The savings from both the Divot and Roster will be carried over to minimize the anticipated increase in dues we will be paying to SCGA over what we currently pay to PLGA in 2012. Joe, Carl and I will begin working on a 2011 budget sometime in December to propose to the membership at our January or February meeting. Last, but not least, I want to wish my parents in PA and all the AMGC members and their families Happy Holidays!

Pre-Meeting Event – Night Light Golf 3 – Club Tournament: With the early darkness of Winter upon us, let’s try our first ever Night Light Golf Ball Tournament on Thursday, December 2nd! Register by 5:00pm with first tee time of 5:30 p.m. with only the first 30 players accepted! The tournament will be a six hole tournament. We will play holes 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 9. This will be a 3-Club tournament (total clubs including putter if selected). Here is the twist: The balls begin flashing upon impact and flash for 5 minutes before going dark. If you lose your ball you are done, and out of the tournament! So speed of play is important! Also, no electric golf carts will be permitted in the dark - walking only. Entry Fee is $20.00 per player and includes one (1) Night Light Golf Ball (ball is yours to keep following play), green fee and prizes. Both Low Gross and Low Net Prizes will also be awarded. Please call the Golf Shop to Register Today! Note: Only 30 players will be accepted!
Junior Holiday Tournament December 21: The annual Alhambra Holiday Junior Tournament is scheduled for December 21 beginning at 10:00am. Entry forms are available in the Golf Shop or Driving Range Office with an entry fee of $25.00, which includes greens fees, range balls, lunch, free hand cart rental, beverages, raffle prizes, trophies and gift certificates! Play will be Individual Stroke Play in age flights for both boys and girls, ages 8 through 17 years. Entry deadline is December 16th, so enter your junior golfers today to not miss out!
We Are Officially a Par 71: All components are in place and Alhambra Golf Course is now playing as a par 71 Golf Course. The tee signs have been updated, new scorecards have been delivered and the new ratings and slopes are on the handicap computer and in place. If you look closely, you will see that the order of handicap holes (rated by difficulty) for the course has changed! Your President and Handicap Chairmen have compiled data from hundreds of AMGC Members rounds over the past year and accurately computed handicap holes to the data recorded. So look at the new scorecards next time you assign handicap strokes with your group, you may not be getting strokes where you may think!
Course Record Falls - “57” Fired: We are excited to report that the Alhambra Golf Course record of 58 has been broken. During the November AMGC Tournament, sponsor Jerry Wisz, Alhambra Golf Shop, utilized his sponsorship four-some and invited his wife Malinda, daughter Allyson (22) and son Scott (20) to complete the four-some. Arriving just minutes before their 8:18am tee time, and with no time to stretch, warm-up or hit any putts or range balls, they went to the first tee. Playing the Blue tees, Jerry proceeded to make eight birdies on the front 9, (only #7 escaped), for a 28. Moving to the back nine, Jerry birdied #10, 12, 14, 15, 16, before finishing 4 on #17 and 18 for a back nine of 29 and a total of 57 and a new course record! The scorecard will soon be mounted and posted in Birdies Bar & Grill as a record of the occasion. The old record of 58 was held by local golf professional Joey Citro and Henry Liaw at age 12. Henry’s record will continue to stand as the record from the White tees and the Junior Record.
Happy Holidays to All from the driving range to the Cart Barn to the Golf Shop. Our entire staff of Alhambra Golf Shop wishes you Merry Holidays and the Happiest of New Years! We are proud and thankful to serve you throughout the year and it is our mission to fulfill all your golfing needs and make every visit to Alhambra Golf Course a most enjoyable one. Our Thanks and Blessings to You!
