Grading Policy:

You will receive grades for completing a variety of assignments. All students will be graded on various classwork and homework assignments as well as periodic quizzes and tests. We will also complete performance tasks which provide you an opportunity to exhibit mastery of several concepts. All assignments will be graded on a point system. Points will vary based on assignment type and length. Assignments and grades will be grouped according to the CC Georgia Performance Standards in order to better analyze your progress and growth over specific topic areas.

Homework:

Students will acquire and apply new mathematical knowledge during each class. Homework exercises help to reinforce students’ understanding of new material. Students are expected to complete assigned homework exercises and have them in class on the following day for evaluation.

Attendance:

As with all classes, it is important for students to make their best effort to attend on a daily basis. The mathematics curriculum builds upon previously mastered skills throughout the year. It is important to be present as much as possible to ensure skill mastery. Students are responsible for all content covered in the course.

Agendas:

The student agenda is one of the most important tools for ensuring success in Middle School. It not only serves as a record of assignments and important dates, it is also a valuable communication tool for use between teachers and parents. I encourage parents to check the agenda daily to ensure its most effective use. *There will always be a posted math assignment for students to copy into their agenda.

Materials:

Students should be prepared with the following materials each day:

·  Agenda

·  Pencil

·  Loose-leaf notebook paper

·  Math Binder

·  Graph paper/colored pencils – as needed

Math Binder:

Students are asked to keep a math binder.

No Work, No Credit Policy:

Mathematics is about more than just getting the correct answer. The process of getting to the correct answer is just as important as the answer itself. For this reason, all work must be shown on math problems in order to receive credit.

Make-up Work:

It is the student’s responsibility to obtain missed work due to an absence. Students should consult the team website for information about missed homework assignments. In the even of a missed quiz or test, students should consult the teacher to schedule a make-up appointment within three days of returning to school. Please refer to the student handbook in the front of the agenda for information on school policies concerning make-up work.

******Please keep this math syllabus in the front of the math section of your binder.*****
