I was reading an article about this device. It is a laser or infrared device

that can determine lift or layer thickness. I think this applied to both

pavment materials. Does anyone have any information on it?

In my previous post I requested information on a laser or infrared device to

measure lift or layer thickness. I should have realized that it was the GPR

(Ground Penetrating Radar) that I was referring to. The report was

"Developement of a Radar Analysis Program for Layer Thickness Determinations" .

The research project was conducted by Emannuel Fernando at the Texas

Transportation Institute (TTI). For more information on the project contact

Bruce Dietrich at (850) 414-4371,

I'd seen some of this being researched TTI a couple of years ago.

Yes, laser or IR have too short a wavelength to "see" through a pavement.

I've seen the GPR in action and it is quite impressive and extremely accurate

in the right hands. It's being used quite a bit in Texas and Canada by a

couple of folks. If you want to talk to the guy at TTI who has been doing a

lot of the software development work and implementation, talk to Tom Scullion
