Greetings! Thank you for joining the MCS Key Communicators Network! We are happy to keep you posted on what’s happening inside YOUR school system.

TOPIC #1: MCS Principal of the Year Announced

TROY – Vance Thomas, principal of Star Elementary School, has been selected as the 2011 Wachovia Principal of the Year for Montgomery County Schools, in a program sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and Wachovia, a Wells Fargo Company.

Thomas now moves on to compete with other local award recipients from the Sandhills/South Central Region of the state. After the state selection process is completed, one principal will be selected as the 2011 Wachovia Principal of the Year.

When asked about the honor, Thomas stated “It is an honor to be chosen as Montgomery County Schools Principal of the Year by my fellow administrators. This award is a reflection on the many accomplishments of students and staff of Star Elementary. I want to thank my wife Crystal, and children, Garner and Olivia, for their love and support.” Click HERE to finish reading the “MCS Principal of the Year” news release.

TOPIC #7: Check out Dr. Ellis’ most recent blog entry!

For any new leader, the first 90 days of a new position are the most crucial. It is during this time that the leader sets the stage for the future of the organization. It is during this time that the values and beliefs of the organization and the leader mesh to become one. Needless to say, it is critical for the first 90 days to be successful. The leader needs to provide a positive foundation for his/her leadership and the organization needs to feel good about the overall direction they are being taken. First impressions do mean a lot and there are no more powerful impressions than that first one when it comes to leadership.

TOPIC #8: Inclement Weather Protocol for Montgomery County Schools

It is desirable for Montgomery County Schools to make announcements regarding school schedules by 5:30 am. When inclement weather is a strong possibility or reality, one of three decisions will be made by the school administration. We will run school as scheduled, delay, or close. No announcement means "school as usual."

In the event Montgomery County experiences inclement weather that will result in school delays or closings, an automated phone message will be sent out to students and staff members from our AlertNow system. School administrators and bus drivers will be notified at approximately 5:30 am. Parents, teachers and support staff will be notified at approximately 6:00 am. TOPIC #9: Early Release Day

Friday, December 17 will be an early release day for all MCS students—schools will dismiss two hours early.
