A must at the top of your list should be visiting the Tricentennial Park: Savannah Children’s Museum, Georgia State Railroad Museum and the Georgia History Museum
From interactive play to train rides to history, there is something for everyone at the Coastal Heritage Society’s Tricentennial Park! The Savannah Children’s Museum’s “Exploration Station” is an outdoor museum with hands-on activities and adventures for children of all ages. Adjacent to the Children’s Museum, you’ll find the Georgia State Railroad Museum, believed to be the largest and most complete antebellum railroad repair facility still in existence, in the world! Enjoy a close-up view of the fully operational turntable, learn about the many historic railcars and rolling stock on display, and experience the handcar with the help of a knowledgeable and friendly historic interpreter.
Fort Pulaski
Kids will love exploring the ramparts, the dark casemates and discovering the miles of nature trails as they learn of the Fort’s heritage in standing guard over Savannah for more than 150 years!
Splash in the Fountain at Ellis Square
Sometimes you just need to let them take their shoes off and run. The splash fountain at Ellis Square allows you to do just that as screams of delight can be heard echoing throughout Savannah’s City Market from the revelry in the Square. Kick back on the steps and let the kids play as you enjoy the sounds live music from City Market courtyard. There are tables and chairs for dining around the perimeter of the Square.
Jepson Center’s Artzeum
The Artzeum is the perfect place to cool off during Savannah’s hot summer afternoons and there’s plenty to keep little hands and minds entertained! Interactive exhibits pay homage to Savannah’s architectural history while captivating all ages and skill levels. From building blocks to exploring
Oatland Island Wildlife Center
Enjoy getting up close to nature as you walk along the the trails at Oatland Island. From the Wolf Wilderness to the Birds of Prey, there’s an exhibit sure to thrill every animal lover in the group. The Georgia Farm is especially fun for the little ones, while older kids will enjoy some of the reptiles in the Main Building. Be sure to check out the cougars, bobcats and red fox! Picnic facilities available, so bring a lunch and make a day of it!
The Pirates’ House
Yo-ho-ho! Whether they’re infants or teens, they’ll be sure to crack a smile upon entering The Pirates’ House. This restaurant serves everything from Southern homestyle cooking to burgers and seafood. The kids menu even turns into a pirate’s hat and eye patch! It doesn’t get more family-friendly than the beloved Savannah establishment where Robert Louis Stevenson’s pages from Treasure Island hang along the walls. Some of the action in the book took place IN The Pirates’ House!
