Grading Policy: Each six weeks grade will be determined using a point system.

  • Six weeks grade = (Points Earned / Points Possible) * 100
  • The semester exam will count for 1/7 of your semester average.

It is the student’s responsibility to keep track of grades in his/her notebook. Graded papers will be returned to you as soon as possible, but make up work will require a longer period of time to grade.

Supplies: The following items will be required in class EVERY DAY.

  1. TEXTBOOK.
  2. A 3-ring binder, preferably 1-1/2”. This notebook should be for Biology materials ONLY.
  3. Composition Notebook
  4. Pencil or pen (blue or black ink only).
  5. Notebook Paper
  6. All Biology notes, handouts, and assignments.

Make Up Work: Make up work will be permitted for excused absences only! It is the responsibility of the STUDENT to get any make up work from Ms. Wimberley and complete it within the time period outlined in the student handbook (number of days absent plus one). If additional time is needed, this must be discussed with the teacher BEFORE the due date. A ZERO will be given for any work not made up within the given time.

Late Work: Late work will receive a 10% reduction per day late. After 5 class days, late work WILL NOT be accepted. Notebook checks will not be allowed a late grade unless the student has an excused absence. It is the student’s responsibility to keep up with assignments not turned in on time.

Classroom Policies:

  1. Be Prepared!
  2. This means to bring your book, paper, writing utensil, and notebook to class EVERYDAY.
  3. Be Respectful.

Lab Safety Guidelines

Most of the laboratory exercises that will be performed in Biology I are relatively safe. There are, however, some safety guidelines that all science students should follow.

  1. READ ALL laboratory exercise directions very carefully BEFORE beginning the experiment. Follow each direction exactly as written unless told otherwise by the teacher.
  2. Follow all directions given by teacher.
  3. Dress appropriately:
  • Always wear a lab apron.
  • Always wear the safety goggles.
  • Avoid wearing loose clothing with floppy sleeves and jewelry.
  • Tie back or cover long hair.
  1. Know the location of the eye-wash station and the procedures for its use.
  2. Know locations of fire extinguishers and fire alarms in the classroom and lab rooms.
  3. NEVER test an unknown substance by touch, smell, or taste.
  4. Handle glassware safely. Please immediately notify the teacher of broken glass.
  5. Be careful around hot plates, hot objects, and open flames. Do not touch hot objects with bare hands; always use forceps or protective gloves.
  6. Keep your workstation neat and keep all breakables away from the edge of the counter or table. Make sure your station is arranged so that you don’t have to reach over heat sources or objects that could be knocked over.
  7. Use caution when handling sharp objects. NEVER cut toward you, always cut away from you. Always notify the teacher of any accidents with sharp objects.

A student who does not follow the lab safety guidelines or causes a dangerous situation may loose laboratory privileges for the particular lab or for the remainder of the semester. Loss of lab privileges will result in a ZERO grade for all remaining labs.

Family Connection

When the student, teacher, and parents work together, Biology II can be an enjoyable class in which students can be very successful. Teaching is a huge responsibility that I do not take lightly. I promise to do my best to give my students the best education possible, but I can only take a student so far. It is the responsibility of the student to get involved and be active in the class. Only the student can determine the ultimate level of his/her success. Students, please do not be afraid to ask for help from myself, another teacher, classmate, or parent/guardian. Families, your involvement is just as important! Please ask your student regularly about progress in class, grades, and upcoming assignments.

My class web site will always have the weekly calendar, class power points, and vital class information available on the web at . Of course, you may feel free to e-mail me at any time with any questions. I generally check my e-mail 3 or 4 times daily, and I will reply as soon as I am able. If you do not use e-mail or would prefer not to share your e-mail address please make a note of your request on the following page. I am looking forward to a wonderful year and hope to keep everyone up to date!
