TOLEDO HARBOR LIGHTHOUSE WATERFRONT FESTIVAL

July 12th & 13th, 2008 Maumee Bay State Park,

Saturday, 10a.m.- 8p.m. Sunday 10a.m. – 6 p.m.

Dear Artist/Crafter:

The Toledo Lighthouse will be in the spotlight in 2008. The dock, ramp, and lift are ready to be installed and there should be public access. This will result in a lot of publicity for the lighthouse and the festival. We received very positive feedback in 2007. The 2008 festival will be laid out like the 2007 festival. This is an invitation to invite you back to our festival, or for new artists/crafters to invite you to have an exhibit of your art/crafts, at the Toledo Harbor Lighthouse Waterfront Festival. Since this is a lighthouse festival, we focus on waterfront, wildlife, and nautical themes but other art/craft exhibits may be accepted on a case by case basis. All artist and crafters are asked to display ‘nautical decorations’ in their exhibit.

The lighthouse society is working with Duket Porter, an architectural firm, to prepare plans and specifications to restore the lighthouse. Coastal Ohio and the Lake Erie Protection Fund approved grants for this work. Those funds along with memberships and festival proceeds are responsible for beginning the restoration process.

In addition to the arts and crafts, the festival includes BP sponsored fireworks and free entertainment with Surfin Beachboys music by the Bonkers on Saturday, magician, Maumee Community Band, and island music throughout the weekend. The Lighthouse Sand Castle contests will again be held on Saturday and Sunday. There is also a Lighthouse Photo Contest. The very popular boat tours which this year should include in the lighthouse are featured. Food, children’s games and a silent auction and more continue. The festival is listed in area wide and lighthouse event calendars. Local listings will start the month before the festival. Radio ads begin the week before the festival. Attendance at the festival continues to grow. Comments from the 2007 artists/crafters gave very high marks to the festival. The festival will be listed in all area papers, television stations and radio.

To keep with the ‘spirit of the festival’, all artists/crafters are asked to include a nautical theme in their display. The artists/crafters area is located off the shores of the inland lake with a view of the Maumee Bay/Lake Erie beach. All exhibits are outside near parking and festival activities. You can pull up a vehicle to unload. Toledo Harbor Lighthouse items are encouraged. Each display area is 15’ x15’ with the cost the same as 2007, $30 by May 31st and $35 after. Preregistration is required. There is security Saturday evening, but exhibitor responsibility lies with the crafter.

The artists/crafters area will be carefully screened to maintain the integrity and quality of all art/crafts exhibited. At least 2/3 of the exhibit must be done by the exhibitor. I hope that you will join us as an artist/crafter at this historic lighthouse festival. If you have any questions, please call at 419-691-3273.

Sincerely,

Peggy Welsh
