To Use the Gestetner

  1. On the left hand side of the machine, remove and empty the master bin into the trash can. Place the master bin back into the machine.
  2. Add printing paper to the tray on the right hand side of the machine. Ensure the switch above the paper tray is set to Standard.
  3. Push the Energy Saver button to activate the machine.
  4. Open the lid and place the original face down on the glass between the two lines labeled 8 ½.
  5. Push the Clear button to ensure the number of copies is reset.
  6. Push the Master Making button.
  7. Ensure the Speed setting is centered in the middle for making the master.
  8. Ensure the Density setting is Normal.
  9. Push Start. The machine will create the master and make a sample copy.
  10. If the copy is too light, push the Proof button to darken it. Another sample copy will be made.
  11. The machine will automatically switch into Copy mode.
  12. If the original has graphics or a border involving a dense block of black, the ink can cause the copies to stick together in the machine. It is best to avoid using dense blocks of black on the original, but if this is the case, push the Skip Feed button to add a slight pause between copies to help prevent sticking.
  13. When the copies are done, be sure to turn off the Skip Feed feature by pressing the button again. The Clear button will not turn this off.
  14. Enter the number of copies and push Start.
  15. Once the copies are made, push the Clear button and then the Energy Saver button to turn off the machine.
  16. Remove your original from the glass.
  17. For handouts distributed to the students, add a copy to the Communication notebook in the front office so additional copies can be made by the office staff if needed. Use the PTA section of the Communication notebook for PTA related material.
