JOB TITLE: / Catering & Housekeeping Assistant
ACOUNTABLE TO: / Director of Clinical Services
REPORTS TO: / Catering Manager

SALARY: / £14,080
JOB SUMMARY:
To work as part of the catering and housekeeping team. To provide assistance to the catering team including food preparation, general kitchen duties, including serving patients and their families. To provide assistance to the housekeeping team in to ensure the highest possible standards are maintained, including general cleaning duties and laundry services in order to comply with the infection control policy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
KEY FUNCTION ONE – HOUSEKEEPING/LAUNDRY DUTIES
  • To ensure that Hospice Statutory Regulations regarding hygiene and safety are complied with in all tasks undertaken.
  • To ensure that Hospice standards of cleanliness is achieved and maintained with all fixtures and fittings below six feet as designated.
  • To clean all rooms or corridors in accordance with the cleaning rota. In either the Hospice or the Coach House.
  • To use electrical appliances in accordance to the job requirement.
  • To collect soiled laundry from ward areas where it is placed in trolleys and already pre-sorted in appropriate bags.
  • To unload soiled linen trolley and sort laundry in to different categories.
  • To identify which categories of laundry require the appropriate wash, load machines and set to appropriate programme. (Note: all filled red plastic bags are soiled laundry and all require a sluice wash.)
  • To unload machines after appropriate wash and place articles in the dryer and set to appropriate programme for drying.
  • Press all linen by either steam roller or general iron and board.
  • To be responsible for cleaning the Laundry Room in all areas below six feet.
  • To be fully aware of the C.O.S.H.H. Regulations and the handling and using of all chemicals and materials required to carry out your duties.
KEY FUNCTION TWO – FOOD SERVICE ASSISTANT DUTIES
  • To maintain the Hospice high standard of hygiene and cleanliness of all cutlery, crockery, glassware, kitchen and dining room utensils.
  • To ensure the cleanliness and tidiness of the dining room and staff room at all times.
  • To ensure the cleanliness of store rooms and that delivered purchases are put away in rotation as directed.
  • To prepare food as requested.
  • To assist, as requested, in other kitchen duties.
  • To attend meetings and training courses as may be necessary.
  • To attend any reasonable requests by the Management.
Confidentiality and Security of Information
  • Within your position you will be expected to adhere to the Security of Information Policy that concerns your job role within the Hospice.
  • You will be expected to attend security and confidentiality training as and when required.
  • Should you have any matters of concern you are encouraged to raise these with your line manager.
