Born in Wickersley 1890 son of the late Thomas Wadsworth Baker, rural postman who died 1907 aged 50 and Charlotte Baker.

He was a quarry mason and enlisted in Rotherham at the age of 25.

He was 5ft 3¼ " with a 34½ " chest.

He landed in France on 21 Jun 1916 and was killed on 7 Jul 1916 when his battalion were attacking North Bluff Authuille. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.

BarkerThomasGunner 175789 Royal Garrison Artillery 14th Siege Battery

Born Wickersley 1881 son of late George, farm labourer died 1901aged 60 and Harriet Barker of Quarryfields, Wickersley.

He was a labourer to a steam roller operator.

He died of wounds 27 Apr 1918 aged 37 near Calais.

Buried at Les Baraques Military Cemetery Sangatte.

Born Wickersley 1888 son of late Charles, quarry mason died 1900 aged 58 and

Martha Bell.

He was a grinding stone maker.

He never served overseas and died in Holborn London 12 Jun 1918 aged 31.

Buried is in Wickersley St Albans Churchyard.

Born Braithwell 22 Dec 1895 son of Francis and Mary E Carr of Wickersley Lings

He was a carter and enlisted Sheffield 3 Jun 1915 aged 19 years 6 months.

Admitted to SEM Brigade Hospital Canterbury 12 Sep 1915 and died 2.45pm 15 Sep 1915 of acute appendicitis.

Buried is in Wickersley St Albans Churchyard.

Born Wickersley 1889 son of late Thomas, a quarryman died 1905 aged 51, and

Ann Elizabeth Chambers.

He was a pit labourer and enlisted in Pontefract in Dec 1915.

He was 5 ft 6" with a 37½" chest.

Transferred to Machine Gun Corps Jul 1916 and he landed in France Aug 1916.

He was involved in the Battle of Langemark Aug 1917 at Ypres.

He died of wounds to head and arm at 3rd Australian casualty clearing station

17 Aug 1917.

Born Whittlingham, Norwich 1895 son of Jockey Frost, a bricklayer and Sarah Frost

of West Villa, Rotherham Road, Wickersley.

He was a labourer and enlisted Rotherham 2 Sep 1914 aged 19.

He was 5ft 5¾" with a 37" chest.

Landed in France 27 Aug 1915.

He died by accidental drowning 8 Sep 1915.

He was killed 1 Jul 1916 attacking Ovillers where his battalion suffered 635 casualties.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.

He was a horseman at Everton, Bawtry and enlisted 12 Sep 1917.

He died 14 Nov 1918 aged 33.

Buried Chesterfield Christ Church.

His widow lived at Canal Wharf, Sandgravels, Chesterfield.

William married Emily Griffin of Derby in 1907

He was a quarry apprentice and he enlisted in Rotherham in Dec 1915 aged

18 years 11 months.

He was mobilized on 30 Apr 1917 and landed in France 27 Jul 1917.

He was admitted to York Military Hospital in Dec 1917 with a shrapnel wound to the hand.

He was discharged in Feb 1918 and given home leave.

He landed back in France with Durham Light Infantry 31 Mar 1918.

He was killed in action on 24 Aug 1918 aged 21.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial.

The memorial bears the names of over 9,000 men who fell but have no known grave.

14 Valley View Terrace, Bramley.

He was a colliery labourer and enlisted 31 Aug 1914 landed in France 24 Aug 1915.

He was killed in action 17 Jun 1916.

Buried Aveluy Communal Cemetery.

Next of kin was his sister, Mrs Margaret Sharpe 13 Cross Street, Bramley.

Born Cosford, Suffolk 1886 son of Arthur and Eliza Mulley, Hadleigh, Suffolk.

He was a regular soldier stationed in India in 1911 and enlisted in Cambridge.

He landed in France 21 May 1915.

He was killed in action 25 Sep 1915 aged 29 at the second battle of Bellewaarde.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Menin Gate, Ypres.

Married Edith May had sons Davis G and Ernest W

He enlisted Aug 1914 in Ballarat Victoria. He left Melbourne for Alexandria in Oct 1914 then sailed to Gallipolli Apr 1915.

Reported killed in action when landing 25 Apr 1915.

He is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial to the 4,900 ANZAC troops with no known grave.

Born Mexborough 1887 son of William and Eliza Peniston of Wickersley.

He was a brick labourer.

He was killed on 29 Mar 1918 and has no known grave.

He is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial the 14,000 missing

between March and Aug 1918.

Born Derby 1896 Son of Thomas and Emma Paulson.

He was a postal telegraph messenger.

He landed in France 7 Sep 1915.

He was killed 28 Apr 1917.

Buried in a mass grave at Tank cemetery Guemappe with 64 men of his battalion.

Born in Whiston 1885. A domestic gardener he lived at Pleasant View Wickersley

with his wife Jessie and 2 children under 5 years.

He enlisted into the 164th (Rotherham) Howitzer Brigade RFA raised in Rotherham on 9th Apr 1915.

He landed in France on 13 Dec 1915.

He died of wounds aged 31 on 18 Jan 1916 and is buried at Authuile Military Cemetery.

He was a colliery fireman and enlisted Dec 1915 and mobilised Apr 1918.

He landed in France 7 Sep 1918.

He was killed in action 24 Oct 1918 aged 26.

Buried Verchain British Cemetery.

His widow was awarded a pension of 13/9d (68p) per week.

Born Edlington 12 May 1898 son of Joseph and Mary Elizabeth Smith of 33 Park Mount, Bramley.

He was a saddler employed by A E Varah of Wickersley and later John Simpson, Saddler of 13 Frederick Street, Rotherham. He enlisted May 1916 into Royal Engineers and mobilised as a harness maker at the Army Ordnance depot Chatham.

He transferred to Durham light Infantry and landed in France Sep 1917.

He was reported missing and presumed killed in action 13 Apr 1918 aged 19.

His body was buried in Sep 1918 but the grave was subsequently lost.

He is commemorated on the Ploegstreet Memorial in Belgium to 11,000 with no known grave.

He was a farm labourer.

He was killed in action 31 Jul 1917 aged 19 at the battle of Pilkem Ridge.

He is commemorated on the Menin Gate Ypres to 54,000 men who have no known grave.

Born Braithwell 1897 he lived at the Lings with wife Florence and baby daughter Katherine.

He was a mechanic at a colliery and enlisted Rotherham 1910 for 4 years and extended his service at the outbreak of war.

He landed in France 13 Apr 1915.

He was wounded on 13 Aug 1915 and rejoined his battalion on 1 Sep 1915.

He was treated for gas poisoning at 91st Field Ambulance on 23 Jul 1917.

He was admitted to 3rd Western General Hospital Cardiff on 10 Aug 1917.

He died on 3 Sep 1917.

Buried Thrybergh St Leonards Church.

His widow received a pension of 22/6d (£1.12d) per week.

YatesBorn St Ives , Cornwall 1898 son of famous artists William Holt Yates Titcomb

and Jessie Ada Titcomb. In 1911 they were living in Vyvyan Terrace, Clifton, Bristol.

The Holt Yates family resided at Wickersley Hall. They funded the establishment of the Wickersley Christian Institute in 1862.

He joined the Royal Naval Air Squadron as a Probationary Flying Officer.

He was killed when his plane crashed on 15 Apr 1917 during a training flight.

He was killed 8 Jun 1917.

He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Menin Gate, Ypres.

He was a boiler fireman and enlisted in Sheffield in Nov 1914 and lived at Bishop Hill, Woodhouse.

Transferred to York & Lancs Jun 1915.

He landed in France 18 Aug 1915.

He was killed 20 Feb 1916.

Buried La Brique Military Cemetery.

His widow received a pension of 15/-d (75p) per week.
