Dropbox.com is an online storage site where your child may save schoolwork instead of using a flash drive or disk. This allows the child to work at home and school and not lose or forget the flash drive. Use the following directions to work and save at home.

To save in Dropbox while you are at home:for any grade level

1st install Dropbox on your home computer: (very safe, I have used it for years)

(You will be able to see your documents at dropbox.com without installing, but will not be able to save unless you install your dropbox on that computer.)

These are the basic directions, some computers install a little differently:

Open internet

Go to

Click “sign in” (I have already made your child’s account using his/her school email)

email:

Password: ______(your birthdate)

Find your name on top right of screen, click on arrow beside name

Click “install”

Click “free download”

Click “run” (If you don’t see “run”, click “save”)

Download should begin and will take a few minutes.

A box may appear asking you to sign in using the email and password above. Or you might just have to click “Open my dropbox folder”

You should now see a small blue box on the bottom right corner of your computer desktop.

You might also get a message “linked to dropbox”

The small blue box should remain in the bottom right corner of your desktop when you close out the internet.

If the blue box disappears, then you did not complete the process and need to try again. (On some school computers, I had to try twice in order to finish the process)

DO NOT CHANGE any settings, email, or password. I need them set up a certain way to link your child’s account to my account. That way they can print from my account and my school printer.

To open your document on dropbox.com:

Click on the tiny blue box you installed on your desktop.

Click “dropbox folder”

Click or double click on name of your file.

Click “download” and wait for it to open.

To save to dropbox.com:

Click on “file”

Click “save as”

Click around on all the options in the box until you see dropbox. You may need to click on browse, computer or somewhere else to see dropbox as an option. (every computer brand is different)

Click on the same name as the document you are working on to replace the old document. (If it is a new document, then give it a name) Ex: Ellis Island name of your child

Save as type – change to Word 97-2003 Document (so we can open on old and new computers)

DO NOT CHANGE any settings, email, or password. I need them set up a certain way to link your child’s account to my account. That way they can print from my account and my school printer.
