TO REPORT AN EMERGENCY

The individual who first becomes aware of fire, bomb threat, or other problem that requires emergency response will:

  1. Dial 9-9-1-1 to obtain appropriate emergency services, OR Press Panic Alarm to alert Royal Alarm.
  2. Notify Site Supervisor and co-workers.
  3. Notify WIC Director/HQ Linda Franklin 595-6464 or 595-6450, cell 919-8715 as time permits.

The WIC office at Eastmont TownCenter is equipped with an emergency alarm system that consists of audible alarms (sirens). The system starts whenever an alarm box (pull station) is activated by sensors or by an employee pulling the alarm.

WHEN THE ALARM SYSTEM IS ACTIVATED

PROCEED OUTSIDE TO THE ASSEMBLY AREA:

Go the F entrance and then take stairway down to Church

Street, walk to Parking Lot in front of the building near Taco Bell

EVACUATION STEPS

  1. The decision to evacuate the building will be made by the Site Supervisor or lead nutritionist or Eastmont Building Security or the Oakland Police or Fire Department.
  2. If evacuation is required, the Site Supervisor will inform everyone in the work area to leave the building and employees to gather at the designated assembly area. In addition, she/he will be the last one to leave their area after appropriate measures have been taken to ensure all employees and clients have left the building.
  3. All staff will exit in an orderly manner and assist clients and visitors out of the building.
  4. Site supervisor shall search restrooms and ensure the area is cleared and all employees are accounted for.
  5. The Site Supervisor upon learning of missing, disabled or injured staff, clients or visitors will alert the Emergency offices (Police/Fire) so that they can begin search/rescue/response.
  6. Assembly Point Coordinator will assure that staff report to the safe area at Parking Lot in front of the building near Taco Bell. Staff should take personal valuables such as purses and their emergency backpacks for all evacuations.

SITE SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES

The Site Supervisor is responsible to develop/maintain the Emergency-Evacuation Plan and for implementing the Plan in the event of a disaster or emergency. An emergency may include a fire, bomb threat, civil disobedience, earthquake, or hostage situation. Responsibilities include:

  • Ensures employees are informed of emergency plan and that a floor plan showing evacuation routes and other fire and life safety information is posted in common areas accessible to assigned employees and the public.
  • Makes decision to evacuate the building in the case a pull station has not been activated. In absence of Site Supervisor, the decision to evacuate will be made by other personnel.
  • Ensure all employees and clients have left the building and that emergency personnel are notified of any missing individuals.
  • AFTER OFFICE HOURS AND HOLIDAYS. If notified of a building emergency: determine whether emergency exists, may contact GSA or owner, go to building to direct activities. In the case of an area-wide disaster after normal office hours, activates disaster plans (See emergency card).

RE-ENTRY

The Site Supervisor after consultation with Eastmont Security/Police/Fire personnel will notify employees when it is safe to re-enter the building.

MAINTENANCE AND TRAINING

The Site Supervisor will also perform the following services to assure that Emergency plans are current and that staff are informed and remember what to do:

  • Reviews and update the plan at least once a year.
  • Holds de-briefing meetings following each building emergency to review the effectiveness of the emergency response efforts.
  • Reviews emergency procedures with assigned employees once a year. As part of this orientation, employees will be instructed to do the following:
  • Review the emergency guide found in the County telephone book.
  • Take personal valuables, i.e., purses and their emergency back pack with them during an evacuation.
  • Avoid jaywalking. In addition, be aware of traffic hazards when crossing the street during and after an evacuation.
  • Inspects the site at least once a year and arrange an annual safety inspection by the County Safety Program Manager.
  • In accordance with CAL-OSHA requirements, there will be at least one drill per year.
