Location: / This is a Pan Gwent post with an Office Base at Newport Mind. The post holder will be expected to travel to, and work from, various locations across Gwent such as local Mind associations offices, Community Venues and Colleges.

PURPOSEOFPOST:

To publicise, promote and enhance the profile of the Changing Minds Project to relevant stakeholders using a variety of mechanisms to support the future sustainability of the Project and to encourage young people to volunteer.

In collaboration with the Changing Minds Project Workers to supportindevising, developing and deliveringvolunteer recruitment, selection and training to enable young people to become involved in volunteering in the Changing Minds Project and Newport Mind.

In collaboration with the Changing Minds Project Workersto develop opportunities for young people to volunteer in a variety of roles including peer advocacy, peer support, group facilitation, administration, events, promotion, publicity, anti-stigma and awareness-raising, fund-raising and campaigning.

In collaboration with the Changing Minds Project Workersto provide leadership, support, supervision and encouragement to volunteers to enable them to take advantage of the opportunities available in the Changing Minds Project and Newport Mind and within the wider community, ensuring that their efforts are appropriately recognised.

To work with the volunteers to provide services that promote the mental health and mental wellbeing of young people across Gwent.

To develop work with volunteers to address and reduce the stigma and discrimination around mental health.

To systematically and periodically review, monitor and evaluate the volunteering opportunities in the Changing Minds Project and Newport Mind to ensure they continue to meet the needs of the Project,Newport Mind and the needs of young volunteers and to inform future planning and developments.

To support the continued development of the Changing Minds Projectand Newport Mind as a source of high quality opportunities for young people with mental health problems to volunteer, develops skills and to make a positive difference to the lives of other young people, as well as make a difference in their own lives.

To develop partnerships with a variety of organisationsacross Gwent to support volunteering in the Changing Minds Project and Newport Mind and to support the development of progression pathways for volunteers as well as supporting the vision, mission and goals of Newport Mind.

PRINCIPALRESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To coordinate, plan, lead, manage and supervise, directly or indirectly,in collaboration with the Changing Minds Project Workers,the volunteers and volunteer activity of the Changing Mind Project and Young People at Newport Mind in line with the vision, mission, values, strategy and operational goals of the Changing Minds Project and Newport Mind.
  1. To promote the value of volunteering in the Changing Minds Project and at Newport Mind to young people, statutory organisations, service users and to potential volunteers in the community and to enhance the profile and reputation of the Changing Minds Project through the activities, achievements and actions of the volunteers.
  1. To be responsible for ensuring that volunteers are recognised for their time and commitment through in-house events, nominations for third sector awards, national recognition and accreditation schemes, such as the maintenance of Millennium Volunteering (MV) awards.
  1. To contribute to the development, production and delivery of Changing Mind’s and Newport Mind’s yearly volunteering plan taking into account the needs of young volunteers, the local community and the needs of Newport Mind.
  1. To provide support to staff in their management, supervision and support of volunteers placed in the Changing Minds Project and Newport Mind.
  1. To identify gaps in the placement of volunteers within the services of the Changing Minds Project and Newport Mind and take action to remedy the situation as well as responding to the needs of potential volunteers in the community.
  1. To be responsible for the recruitment and selection of volunteers to meet the needs of the Changing Minds Project Newport Mindin collaboration with the Changing Minds Project Workers, and also developing opportunitiesand pathways for progression that suit theneeds and aspirations of service usersseekinga volunteering role.
  1. To ensure that Disclosure and Barring Service checks, where required, have been completed.
  1. To plan, deliver and coordinate the induction, initial training, and on-going training and development of volunteers in partnership with In collaboration with the Changing Minds Project Workersand existing volunteers in the Changing Minds Project and Newport Mind.
  1. To sustain, consolidate and increase existing levels of volunteeringin the Changing Minds Project and Newport Mind and increase the range of volunteering roles availablepromoting increased learning and personal development opportunities for volunteers through the new roles.
  1. To be responsible for thedevelopment of marketing materials and marketing activitiesin collaboration with the Changing Minds Project Teamin order to publicise, promote and enhance the profile of the Changing Minds Project to relevant stakeholdersand to recruit volunteers appropriate to the various volunteering roles and the needs of the Changing Minds Project and Newport Mind.
  1. To develop excellent links and partnerships with relevant agencies to support volunteering and volunteers in the Changing Minds Project and Newport Mind and to publicise, promote and enhance the profile of the Changing Minds Project, such as Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations, local Colleges and Universities, local employers and businesses.
  1. To be responsible in collaboration with the Newport Mind Volunteer Coordinator for ensuring that the Changing Mind Project and Newport Mind continues to achieve the Investing in Volunteers (IIV) quality award and liaising with Agored Cymru and otherprovidersto secure accreditation for volunteer training and volunteer experience.
  1. To assist in the co-ordination and training of volunteers and service users to be able to provide a range of mental health awareness training, information and promotional talks.
  1. Promoting mental health and mental wellbeing through the volunteering activities in the Changing Minds Project and Newport Mind including increased awareness of mental well-being and strategies to improve it, opportunities to talk, awareness events,and training.
  1. Ensure all work including programmes, training, interventions and support to individuals, groups and organisations are effectively recorded, monitored and evaluated.
  1. Ensure that equality and diversity are central to proactively address disadvantage, inequalities, stigma and discrimination within the community, takinginto account the differing needs of people within the community.
  1. Work in accordance with best practice, legal requirements, and all relevant policies of the Changing Minds Project and Newport Mind, and to contribute to the development of such policies.

Funding for this post is provided by a grant from Big Lottery and the project is due to end in November 2018 unless further funding can be secured.

Experience
  1. Experience of coordinating, leading, managing and supervising, directly or indirectly, young volunteers and volunteer activity in line with organisational plans and managerial direction.
  1. Experience of involving and engaging young people in a variety of volunteering roles and activities such as peer advocacy, peer support, group facilitation, administration, events, promotion, publicity, anti-stigma and awareness raising, fund-raising and campaigning.
  1. In depth experience in connection with volunteers of all of the following:-

  1. Experience of supporting staff in their management, supervision and support of volunteers.
  1. Experience of coordinating the development, production and delivery of an annualservice plan taking into account the needs of stakeholders.
  1. Experience of collaborative working and developing partnerships, formal and informal, with community groups, businesses, third sector organisations and statutory services to increase the range of volunteering opportunities available especially to people with mental health problems.
  1. Experience of marketing and project promotion including the design and development of marketing activities and materials to support this.
  1. Experience of developing excellentlinks with other organisations to support volunteering and volunteers and to raise the profile of the project.
  1. Experience of ensuring compliance and adherence to accreditation and quality systems, such as Investing in Volunteers as well as securing accreditation for training and volunteer experience from suitable providers such as Agored Cymru.
  1. Experience of coordinating and training staff, volunteers and service users to be able to provide training, information and promotional talks.
  1. Experience of recording and monitoring of programmes, training, interventions and support and using the information to produce high quality reports.
