Aims /
- To prepare the students for job applications on and before graduation.
- To explore the process and mechanisms of applying for NHS jobs online.
- To engage in a range of activities to assist job applications and enhance curriculum vitae (CV).
- To explore opportunities for entrepreneurial activity within and outside the NHS.
- To prepare the students for job interviews and their role as a newly qualified practitioner.
Learning outcomes/objectives / On successful completion of the module, students will be able to:
- develop a portfolio of their experiences
- learn about self promotion; write a CV and personal statement to promote themselves
- to develop a strategy for applying for jobs
- consider how to enhance the student experience and improve their employability leading to CPD
- reflect on their clinical experience and consider entrepreneurial and non standard routes to employment.
Content / CV development, job applications, job interview preparation, writing personal statements, managing feedback from placement, entrepreneurial activity up date, current issues in the professional arena,eg. QIPP, Any Qualified Provider, extended patient choice, extended scope of practice. Enhancing student employability through specialist input, eg. ergonomic assessment, sports physiotherapy, entrepreneurial skills.
Teaching and learning strategies / Lead lectures, tutorials and consultations with staff to assist.
Formative feedback and items which contribute to portfolio.
Learning support / Careers counsellor, staff – particularly in their role as personal tutors, visiting lecturers – clinical managers from different settings, internet resources.

Assessment tasks / The students will be expected to prepare a curriculum vitae (LO 1 & 2) with a 1000 word supporting reflective personal statement (LO 3 & 4), which they can use as a template for job applications. This will constitute 100% of the assessment.
