Re: Feedback- Spring- “Voice of the Scout” responses

Thank you to those who responded to the “Voice of the Scout” e-mail survey. This is our first step into the electronic world of capturing feedback via email on the programs and services of Scouting.

Parents of Scouts, the Scouts themselves, volunteer leaders as well as Chartered Organization leaders responded. Your responses have been reviewed by a steering committee of staff and volunteers.

While it is not a complete list, here are 4 salient overarching themes of what we heard you say:

  1. Cub Scout Parents & Cub Scouts- say that Fun well planned, meetings/activities as well as involvement of Family and Friends is what they enjoy most out of Cub Scouting and it is why they joined and why they stay engaged and involved.
  1. Boy Scout Parents, Boy Scouts and Ventures- say that a robust, active and dynamic outdoor program with trips, camps and outings is why they join and stay in Scouting/Venturing.
  1. Parents of Scout participants as well as volunteer leaders- say help support our unit volunteer leaders within Dens, Packs, Troops and Crews by:
  2. Resourcing and promoting “Fun for the Scouts” with exciting, healthy, safe and engaging weekly meetings & outdoor programs and activities.
  3. Keep the program simple and nimble for parents and Scout Leaders to use and implement.
  4. Assist in unit volunteer selection, training and a succession process.
  1. All respondents- say help us to insure that we have effective and well resourced Scout leaders to work with the Scouts & help us reduce the time spent on administrative functions- chartering, etc.

Ok, we heard your “Voice”…..and hereis what we are doing: SAMPLEIDEAS

  1. Recharter-we are going to tackle this administrative matter in Scouting. A team of staff and volunteers will be empowered immediately to review the process, develop a game plan, then implement the plan in order to reduce the amount of time, misinformation, mistakes and frustration it takes to complete this annual registration process- for the 2013 registration cycle.
  1. Unit level Scout volunteer selection, training and succession-A team of staff and volunteers will be empowered to review the current process, develop best practices, and then implement a plan to address this concern. Deliverables from this team will be implemented as soon as their work is complete.

In addition to these 2 critical action items, other items will be addressed and we will continue to focus on those areas that you indicated were working well.

We continue to need your assistance in capturing as many accurate emails from Parents, Scouts and Leaders as possibleFurther, in order for this feedback to be valid and relevant- please encourage your families and leaders to respond when the survey emails are sent.

Feedback will only be requested twice a year-Scouts Honor!

Thanks for all that you do in Scouting. I look forward to keeping you informed as we continue to offer the Scouting and Learning for Life program of the highest caliber to the greatest number of young people possible in Takeany Council.
