RE:Affiliate and MSEA CommitteeInvolvement in MSEA Resolutions Process
In an effort to gain input from local affiliates and other MSEA committees, the MSEA Resolutions Committee is asking for your assistance. We would like your representative(s) to attend one of the Resolutions Committee meetingsto give your input, or, in addition, if you would prefer one of the committee members to speak to one of your meetings, please call Cathy Perry, MSEAAssistant Executive Director of the Center for Affiliates and Advocacy, or Yusuan Smithson, MSEA Administrative Assistant, at 1-800-448-6782 at the MSEA headquarters office.
If you have a new or a revised resolution to present, the Resolutions Committee will meet on the following dates:
Saturday, June 3, at 9:30 a.m. at the MSEA officein Annapolis
Saturday, August 5, at 9:30 a.m. at the MSEA office in Annapolis
Because MSEA resolutions are the written expressions of the Association’s positions and beliefs, local affiliates and MSEA committees are encouraged to present their amendments or new resolutions in advance of the MSEA Representative Assembly October 20-21, 2017.
Every year, MSEA Representative Assembly delegates re-examine the current resolutions and amend or add new resolutions. Resolutions are meaningful only if they accurately represent our members’ thinking.
Further, President Betty Weller charged the Resolutions Committee to work in concert with appropriate MSEA committees and local affiliates on an ongoing assessment of current resolutions, assuring that each still meets the needs of our Association and its members. The resolutions must continue to afford the Association sufficient flexibility in its real world advocacy role and be appropriate and clear.
All new issues presented by MSEA committees or local affiliates should be sent to the Resolutions Committee no later than July 17, 2017, to ensure that they are reviewedby the committee and included in the Resolutions report, which will be presented at the October 2017, Representative Assembly.
If you would like to attend a committeemeeting to discuss a resolution or if you have any questions about the resolutions timeline, please call/emailEmily Cramer, Resolutions Co-Chair, at 717-451-4471/ or Tawana Lane, Resolutions Committee Co-Chair, at 301-744-8193/. Also, be sure to notify Yusuan Smithson at 443-433-3659 if you plan to attend a meeting.
Thank you.
