I am delighted to inform you that 53 students from Belmont High School were accepted to participate in the Massachusetts Music Educators Association 2011 Northeastern District Music Festival. Auditions were held on Saturday, November 20th at Peabody High School. Thirty-four of the accepted students received MMEA All-State recommendations, affording them an opportunity to audition for the MMEA All-State Music Festival which will be held in March 2011. I also congratulate their teachers, Arto Asadoorian, Sean Landers and Margot Reavey for their hard work preparing the students for their auditions.

Nine hundred ninety-nine students from grades 10-12 auditioned from 50 high schools in this region of the Commonwealth; 420 students were accepted. Belmont High School represents 13% of all students accepted for participation in the festival; no other school placed as many students into the festival. The students will have an opportunity to meet and work with other outstanding high school musicians from the region, under the direction of nationally recognized conductors. This year’s festival will be hosted by the Lowell Public Schools. They will attend two intensive rehearsals on Wednesday and Friday afternoon and evening, January 5th and 7th that will culminate in a concert on January 8th at Lowell High School.
