WSP97/17 Country Bus – New Service 179 to serve Moorland Read development in Kingsteignton (see attached)
Following a review of their commercially operated services, Country Bus have given notice to withdraw from Service 177, Ipplepen - Abbotskerswell - Newton Abbot.
Following a competitive tender, a new County Council contract has been awarded to Country Bus for a continuing service, which also brings in other elements within the same operation to make the most of available County Council and other funding and to provide the best possible timetable. This starts on Monday 24th July.
The timetable for Service 177, Ipplepen - Abbotskerswell - Newton Abbot, will continue with the following changes:
- An earlier schoolday bus at 0750 from Abbotskerswell to Newton Abbot (in addition to the bus at 0809);
- A second schoolday bus at 1540 from Newton Abbot to Abbotskerswell (in addition to the current 1540 Sherborne Road / 1530 Coombeshead);
- The 1440 bus from Newton Abbot to Totnes will terminate at Ipplepen;
- In Abbotskerswell all journeys will run on a one-way loop via Court Grange Lane, Wilton Way, Slade Lane and Odle Hill.
The service via Reynall Road Ogwell continues as part of Service 177 but to a reduced frequency. This route was originally funded through the housing development but this funding has now expired.
A new Service 179 will serve the Moorland Reach development in Kingsteignton. By combining this operation with the 177, use has been made of new developer funding thereby helping underpin the whole contract.
The new timetable for Kingsteignton is attached
SP99/17 Cycle Routes through Kingsteignton – Cllr Meathrel to report (information attached)
Please find attached the proposed routes for Kingsteignton. These route are designed to enable residents to cross through the town and thereby accessing the key in and out bound cycle routes, plus examine how best to prepare safe cycling for our school children attending the new primary and Teign Academy. Additionally, the next conversation will require the B3193 paths to be fully linked into these new paths to complete the journey and offer the tourist a route into Kingsteignton from places such as Finlake and the campsites around the farms and fringes of our town.
Kind regards Chris

Comments: Further to Teignbridge Cycling Group/Forum AGM

Dear Councillors,

Further to my attendance at the TCF AGM meeting last Tuesday week, I have been asked to prepare a report on the urgently needed cycle routes around Kingsteignton. To keep matters simple and the aim at something which should be achievable, I am proposing our council concentrates on two routes, the purpose of each in to link north to south and east into the central hub (Oakford area).

1.  Route 1 links off the Sustrans National Route No.2 at Passage House Inn/Hotel through Hackney Lane, across Greenhill Way and into the Bath Estate (old KCRC land) and down Sandpath Road to link up with the existing Village Central Hub area at Oakford.

2.  Oakford hub area (Fountain) straight through Broadway Road to Old Exeter Road.

At one point on the Newcross (Redrow Estate), there will be access into this new estate, from this point, one should be able to access the cycle path on the outer boundary of this estate (as per plans submitted to this council.)

3.  Broadway Road is a difficult but essential route, as it is the only route available to link through to Old Exeter Road and the split point link for Stover Canal (west) and the B3913 (east).

4.  As the Newton Abbot to Bovey Tracey route has been approved and the links through to Old Exeter Road will be examined. This council will need to be mindful of the Kingsteignton cycle route needed to feed into the Stover Trail and for residents wishing to walk the Stover Canal and/or the Templar Way.
